A pixie cut is less work to take care of on a daily basis, but it is more upkeep as far getting haircuts.
I wanted to grow my hair long but of course things change. I got it colored last time, didn't turn out right... My hair is shoulder length, naturally blonde, I'm short. Debating on a pixie hair cut ( would it be to short, ) I don't do my hair a lot, don't wear any makeup.

IMO, most women do not look better with long hair. I'm a hairstylist and I've had my hair long and short, and everything inbetween. What matters most, is that you have someone who can cut short hair really well. Not all stylists can. If you don't have a stylist that you trust to do it, get a referral. Even if that means stopping someone at the store to ask where they get their hair done. And you might have to pay more for it. It would be worth it if you get the right cut. And if you decide to grow it out, you go back to the great stylist and have her reshape it while it grows out. There's no need to suffer if/when you decide to change your hair again. And do take pictures, sometimes when we're not happy with how are hair turns out, its not that its a bad cut, but there was a breakdown in communication during the consultation.
I don't know what you look like, but I say if you want to try it, you should. It could be your favorite hairstyle. And why would you want to look like everyone else?
I did this Jenna Elfman haircut last year http://beauty.about.com/od/shorthairstyles/ss/celebshort_... , and loved it, but couldn't keep up with getting it trimmed every 4 wks, so it ended up looking a bit shabby. I ended up having to grow it out again, which is actually an awkward process when you're growing out such an uneven cut. There were a few very bad hair months during the grow out.
One year later it is now grown out, and I have gone back to having a short angled bob.
But, if I could keep up with it, I'd love to keep it. I got so many compliments on it.
You need to make an appointment with a stylist you trust. A stylist is trained to be able to look at the shape of your face and help you to decide which cut is best for you.
My hair is very long, but I've had it all lengths. I actually love my hair in a pixie cut. I got more compliments on my hair like that, then any other hairstyle. (Expect, for now perhaps.) I will never have a pixie cut again. They are a PAIN to grow out. It grows out at all kinds of awkward lengths. You are forced to do something with it, as it grows...because it just looks terrible not to. I spent more time on my hair then, then I do now!! My hair grows VERY fast, so if yours grows slowly it will be worse.
Just my thoughts. If you plan on keeping it in that kind of cut indefinitely, then it would be great. It's a really cute cut, and easy to style when not growing out. If you want to grow it out, it's really a pain. Also, consider your face shape. Pixie cuts look the best on oval face shapes. They aren't often complimentary on very round or square faces.
I'm sorry Phish - I don't know you and have never seen a picture of you. I wouldn't be able to tell you what style hair cut to get nor what style of pants to buy.
Talk with your stylist and tell her/him how you "live your life" and your daily routine for getting ready...he/she should be able to help you make a decision.
Good luck!
I've always heard that mid-length hair is usually the most flattering on women.
I think a longer pixie, along the lines of Anne Hathaway NOW.

Before my mom cut her hair short she went to a wig shop and tried on TONS of wigs to find the style/cut she liked the best, I suggest the same to you.
I absolutely detest pixie cuts. Only women with a very specific face shape and bone structure can carry it off, in my opinion. But my deep hatred of that cut might also be because I was forced to have one when I was a kindergartener in the mid 70s. I was the only kindergarten girl who looked like a boy.
Every 2 years I donate a little over 12 inches to locks of love. So every two years my hair is 'short', well short for me. Puts it just below my shoulders.
One year I was over my hair, it was mid-back and hard to deal with. I decided to go pixie short. The cosmetologist just couldn't do it, it hurt her more then it hurt me. We did settle on a fairly short style, and I have to admit she was right. I loved how easy it was, but I did miss my hair. I'm lucky enough that my hair grows super fast, so I enjoyed it while I had it and the let it grow out.
That's the good thing about hair. It grows back.
i dithered for years, then cut my hip-length hair off, and now i wonder what took me so long.
i absolutely refuse to fuss with hair. even when it was long it was either loose, stuffed in a barrette or french braided. i just can't manage curling things and 'product.' so i've got it in slightly-longer-than-shoulder layers that are 100% wash and go.
i did a bob, which was really easy, but didn't suit my face.
the great thing about hair is that it's never forever. if the pixie cut is hanging out in your head, do it! i would still be wondering about the short bob if i hadn't given 'er a whirl. it'll probably be adorable.
i've even thought of a buzz cut. once you cut off really long hair, why not go all out? but it seems to me as if most buzzed women STILL use stuff in it to make it stand up. too much work.

I'm generally not a fan of pixie cuts. Very few people have the right facial structure to pull them off. If you're considering a drastic change, bring lots of pictures of what you have in mind to a talented stylist with a good reputation. Ask for her advice and approval before doing it.
Go pixie!!!!! It is the best. I have a pixie and I wash and go. No need to priomp or blow dry. A little hair pommade and go. Works great when casual and you can have fun with it when you need to go formal.
In general, most women look better with long hair. If you are confident and have really nice bone structure then go for it. But expect to go to the hairdresser at least every 1-2 months for upkeep.
