Thanks

So What Happened?

Thanks LadyBug will give it a go

Thanks about the oil too - hadn't thought of that. For some reason I was thinking mayo - but maybe that is lice. Will give this all a go and report back. Appreciate your help ladies!

ETA:

So we started with the PB as favorite in our house, and it actually worked (I had the oil out as a backup). As I rubbed the PB in hair, it turned into kind of oily paste. Child has learned lesson :) Thanks again!

If it's been there a while, then oil (like olive oil). Let it penetrate and then try to slide the gum down the hair shaft.

For fresh gum (which I hope you won't need to use because I hope this doesn't happen again!), ice first helps to harden the soft gum and make it less sticky so you can work with it. Then use the oil.

Peanut butter.
It dissolves the gum.
Then wash the peanut butter out with a good shampoo.

Any oil will work. We used olive oil. It takes a while to penetrate and then you have to work slowly removing the hair from the gun in very small sections. Its a pain but at least you don't have a big clump of hair missing. After, just use dawn dish washing soap on that part of the hair to break up to oil and then wash as usual.
