K.D.
I would actually go to a beauty supply store and get a tube of dye from there, the sales person can help you, I will never buy a boxed dye again, I have wasted too much money trying too many different kinds with terrible results.
I have brown curly frizzy hair naturally...with silver shiny gray hairs...what is the best box dye to cover the gray and not make it look dried or fried?

I agree with Katie D, I've had many bad results with almost every type of BOX dye, no matter how expensive, how cheap, permanent or temporary, they have all dried out and damaged my hair.
I started going to Sally beauty supply and they have employees that help a lot with finding what works best for your hair. I spend just as much at Sallys then I would for a box dye.
Good luck!
Hi A.,
You need to decide whether or not you want a permanent color or semi permanent with you hair color. If you go permanent, if you ever decided to go natural you may look a little odd for a while while the color has to "grow" out on the ends. Though it does color gray better it's permanent so choosing the right color is kind of important since you'll be wearing it for a while. Sometimes the permanent color can also look flat though I've seem some with added highlighter to make them appear more natural. And you'll have to do some root coverage since those grays (if you have a good amount) well really show up at your hairline/part.
If you go with a semi permanent, the coverage will wear out in time about a month or two gradually becoming like your natural hair again. The colors tend to look more natural and of course doesn't damage your hair like permanent colors. It can actually make your hair appear healthier/shiny. Also if your not hip on the color it well wear out and you can try another. Make sure to use color treated shampoo to hold the color longer if you like it.
Natural instincts by Clairol is a good drugstore brand, since most are permanent colors.
Hope this helps,
C.
Sounds like my hair. I use Preference by Loreal - Medium natural brown. The lighter you go, the more it will dry your hair out. Good luck.
