How do I get gum off of clothes. My youngest must have put some in her car seat and sat on it, and now it is really stuck to her clothes. Any suggestions??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I tried the freezer, and the gum did not totally harden (still a bit pliable" so I used the cooking spray and that helped. Thanks for the advice!

Try peanut butter. It works great. It will get gum out of anything. It's messy but it works, a little goes a long way.

I've used WD-40. But cooking oil spray sounds like it smells better!

For some reason, my mom used crisco shortening when gum got in our hair. Don't know what it would do to clothes tho.

Good luck I've tried everything and still can't solve that stain. It really depends on the fabric.

just spray a little of the non-stick cooking spray on gum it will slide right out. better than peanut butter! (its the oil in the peanut buuter that helps but its not always enough) works great on play-dough also...

Goo Gone. You can buy it at Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree. My daughter had gum on the bottom of her tights and then put her shoes on. It was all over the inside of the shoes, but you'd never know it now!

Hi D.,

I don't know if this will work on clothes BUT my husband rubbed peanut butter into our son's hair to break down the gum and it worked for that.

Good luck.

put an ice cube on the gum. It will harden it and then you can pick it off.

I haven't tried goo gone, but I have tried Dissolve-it. I think I either got it at Wal-Mart or more likely Target. It has a high oil content and it has gotten everything from wax to sticker glue and also gum out of fabric.

Place the garment in the freezer overnight. The next morning the gum should peel right off.

Stick the item of clothing in the freezer until the gum is hard rather than pliable. The cold should make it hard enough so the gum will come right off.

Try hardening it with some ice, and spray it with WD-40. Just keep scraping, and it should come out.

My mom told me about these methods and they really work.
One way is to rub an ice cube on the gum, it will harden and break off. Another way is to spray hairspray on it, this it will also cause it to harden and break off.

Peanut Butter will leave a residue(oil) spot on clothes sometimes. Your best bet is GOO-Gone. Its oily, and citrus smellin, but it'll do the job. Works well on kool-aid/crystal light/tea stained counter tops also!!!

Put the material that the gum is on in the freezer. When the gum is totally frozen, take it out of the freezer and it should just chip right off! :) Good luck!
