I would like to find someone to come to our house when we arrive home from the hospital to take some pictures of our newborn. I figured someone else on this website has used someone in the past they really liked. Any referrals would be great! I live in Rockville, MD. Thanks!!!

If you want someone who is close in the Bethesda/Rockville area, everyone knows Sandy Kavalier. Her pictures are everywhere and she has a wonderful way with families and children. Just look at these pictures! http://www.kavalierphotography.com/

Bonnie Horseman is fantastic. Her studio is in Leesburg, but she will travel. She did maternity and newborn photographs for us, plus she attended our 3rd son's birth and photographed the whole day for us. Her work is beautiful and worth every penny. Mary Kate McKenna photographed our baby at 3 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. She also happened to photograph our rehearsal dinner. MK is reasonably priced and does lovely work! Perhaps if you let her know who referred you, she might give you a bit of a discount.

Hi J.,
Katie with Portraitions is GREAT! She specializes in traveling, I think her tagline is even "portraits on location." She has taken many photos for us and they are wonderful. She is also very, very easy to work with; very patient and calm and will get the shots you want. She also brings some "props" to capture the photo just right. Please let her know that I referred you to her. Good luck!

I can't add to the recommendations BUT thought I'd share something we did for both kids that we loved, and still admire. Every month for one year I took each child to Sears to get their pictures taken. We now have photographic documentation of each month of their first year of life. Sometimes it was a pain, and sometimes I got carried away ordering photos (thus making it expensive) BUT we so adore the photos now. We still have lots of them in frames on the mantel. A lot of people have told me how they wish they would have done that. (You don't have to use Sears, you could use Target, Wal Mart, JC Penney, etc..--just something convenient). Good luck! Oh, and you may be a bit overwhelmed the day you bring your newborn home so you might want to wait a little bit.
