I would try the mechanics hand cleaner called Goop and Dawn dishwashing liquid. Anything that is an actual grease cleaner.
Yesterday a large puddle ( I guess that is the right word for it!) of grease fell off of our garage door. I didn't notice this and stepped in it. I then walked all through our house, went back into the garage and left for awhile. I didn't notice the grease all over the carpet and garage until I came back home. I tried regular carpet cleaner on it (thinking it was paint or dirt or something) and all that did was spread the stains- luckily I only tried it on two stains in the basement. So now I have quarter sized grease stains all over my carpet and I am fearful of trying anything else on them because I don't want to spread the stains more! If anyone has any tips for getting the grease out that they know will work, please share! It is a really thick, blackish/gray grease that is the consistency of almost dried (but still tacky) paint. Thank you in advance!

Try Spot Shot. We used it on our white carpet when we trekked in grease from the garage and it cleaned it all up! You couldn't even tell there had been a stain. Let it set for a few minutes since it's such a tough stain, then dab up.
Hi A., I think it's called Hot Shot!, it's sold at Wal-Mart it's in a blue can with a orange lid. I've used that on all kinds of stains and it works. Also, the carpet people that come to my work to clean the grease that the mechanics drag in use it on our carpets. Good luck!
Regular Dawn will work. Just like getting the grease off of your dishes it will get it out of the carpet. Use a rag and warm soapy water. Good luck and God Bless.
Hey A. you might want to try Sol-u-mel. This removes permanent marker, crayon, grease,etc... It is also non-toxic and safer for you to use around pets/children without the harmful chemicals. I have lots of testimonies on this product and it will help you with this and so much more :) Send me a private email to learn where I get it from so you can too. We shop at a "green" store.

Hi A.,
Squirt Dawn dishwashing liquid on the grease spots. Let it soak in, then spray it heavily with water and cover the spot with a good shammy for about 2 hours. If the shammy doesn't lift the water, put a book on top of the shammy. This should work. It works for me every time (husband is a mechanic) Good luck!
I use sol-u-mel and mela magic that I buy from a health and wellness company. Go to the business section for live total wellness and get more info.

Hi A., Sorry for stains in your carpet. Just thought I would let you know that my husband is a mechanic and uses Coke in the washing machine to get the grease out of his clothes. What if you used a little coke on a washcloth and rubbed it in the carpet. Then you wouldn't have the soapy mess from dawn soap. Good Luck!
I generally try one of my two favs; plain white vinegar or oxy-clean. Both have worked wonders on everything I need help with. If you try both remember you may need to take more time and do several "sessions" I also pat the nasties out with dry paper towels so I can throw that stuff away. Good luck and keep your patience as it may take awhile to get out.
