Definately go cheap but remember to clean the humidifier frequently. Even the cold mist ones need cleaning.
Hi All! Just looking for some advice on a good humidifier for my little girls room. Should I go with something cheap and simple or is it worth it to pay more for the ultrasonic - digital - blah blah blah? There are so many out there! Thanks for your input.

I bought a cheap one from WalMart several years ago. It holds only one gallon (we have a very small home) and makes a cool mist which I life. I put it the bedroom after the girls go to sleep and it works great. It has a high, low and off setting and it works great. Maybe the ones with "bells and whisles" work but my cheap one does a great job. The company name is "kaz" personal humidifier. A.
I bought a two-pack at target for I think $30. I use one in my dd's room and one in ds's room. I put them in front of the radiator and they work great. They also double as noise drowning white noise. I wouldn't waste your money on the more expensive ones.
I use the little "animal" humidifiers. (Crane makes them.) We have the piggy. :-) I love it because I can adjust the output to fit the cold and/or room size and it's cheap. It has been helping my daughter sleep for the past year and a half! If you empty out the water daily and clean the parts and make sure it dries out between uses, you really shouldn't have to worry about bacteria growing.
It really doesn't matter what you buy. Anything with replaceable filters is good. However, do not buy a warm humidifier. They breed bacteria and do more harm then good. I'd only get a cold mist one.
Like a previous poster, I like the Crane animal ones. Only like $30 and they're great. I liked the pig one so much, I also bought the penguin one!
First I would ask your pediatrician if it is necessary. For my daughter I think it caused more issues than it was worth. It turns out that she now has asthma. I am not saying the humidifier caused it, but that it contributed to her problem. So the doctor doesn't want her using it at all now. Humidifiers need constant filter changing. You should see the nasty mold that grows on the filters after only 1-2 weeks. I cleaned mine every other day and changed the water constantly. Imagine, that is what your baby is breathing before you realize it's time to change the filter. And filters are not always readily available at the store where you bought it. We had the cute Hello Kitty one from Target. Before that we had the same issue with the vick's cool mist humidifier. We had to special order our filters all the time. Ask the doctor what they recommend. All the best. -J. H.
P.S. Our new alternative is to keep the house cooler and wear warmer clothes, plus inhalers and other medicines.
i went to walmart and bought the cheapest cool mist humidifier that they had, some no name brand and it works great for my baby girl....it helps keep her room cool too and help when she has a stuffy nose
