My daughter LOVES her leap frog. It's a definate must have, plus she learns her letters, numbers, spanish etc.

A couple of the kids on my list have enjoyed their own magazine subscription. I thought it was a good idea to encourage reading, kids love to get mail, and the gift gives each month of the year. I pasted the link of a site I found...there are parent reviews of the magazines so you can see who has really enjoyed which magazines. There is something for children as young as 1; maybe even younger.

My daughter just turned 4 in August and we too are already inundated with toys. Some of her favorites from last Christmas were the My Little Pony Castle, anything from Leap Frog, esp. Word Whammer, My First Leap pad and the Imagination Desk, books and more books, puzzles, play doh, color wonder books & paints,care bears, the Story Reader and a set of 6 miniture princesses that i got at the Disney store ( she takes them with her everywhere, in the bath, in her purse to the store, etc.) . and oh yeah- she got a gift certificate to Build a Bear and she loved doing that too!

My son is 3 1/2 and loves puzzles. He has the Melissa and Doug wooden ones and also just some we have gotten from Target and Walmart. He does the 24 piece puzzles.

My daughter is 3 years old too and I know what you mean about running out of ideas. She has too many dolls, stuffed animals and much more. Some things that my daughter loves right now and are very educational is the LeapFrog series (My First LeapFrog), Interactive TV (a special set that you buy different programs for, similar to LeapFrog, but it runs in your DVD player on the TV screen and they use a board to push answers in), Books/Books/More Books (that we read for her, but she likes to memorize and imitate reading)and puzzles. You may be familiar with the Melissa & Doug brand of wooden toys and puzzles and activities. They are made well and always loved. My daughter has the United States map puzzle and she has already learned all the state names and where the pieces all go. Plus, we are now teaching her the capitals and she knows at least half. We're only doing because she LOVES it and is begging to memorize more. So, I hope some of these ideas help.

We are kind of in the same boat you are with our 2 1/2 YO son for Christmas. He loves doing things like his daddy does like BBQ'ing and playing on the computer. We saw the new grill (I think it is playschool) that we are getting him. They also have a new laptop for kids that is educational (numbers, ABC's, phonics, etc...) that we think he will thouroghly enjoy. We just did a trial run with a small beta fish tank because he likes fish so much. For his BIG gift, we are doing either a bookshelf tank or a tank on a stand with all kinds of fish for Christmas. He loves the responsibilty of feeding all of his pets morning and evening. He also loves getting money and saving it in his piggy bank and lately has become fascinated with his daddy's wallet. So, we are thinking of getting him his own wallett for his money. Maybe a little purse for the girl with a coin purse. (Some people tell us our little boy is way to young to save money, feed animals, and be playing on the computer) We strongly disagree because we have made it fun for him to learn and learn responsibility at a young age that we are hoping to not have problems with that aspect of life later on.

Hope some of this helps or possibly gets your wheels turning in your brain for some ideas. I know it is hard!!! We have toys coming out the whazoo and DON'T want or need anymore.

V-Smile it is an educational video game, I purchased one for my daughter when she was three. The system has corresponding games based on the child's age level. The Care Bears game is good for that age level. My daughter loves this game!

My son adores playdough and it gives us something to do together both inside and out.

We bought our daughter the Dora house set from Costco last year, so it came with lots of pieces, and it is still well played with to this day!! She turned 3 last April, so I know that it will work well for your little one. I will be getting the new princess castle to go with it for Christmas this year. I run an in home day care, and along with the Dora house, the little people sets still get lots of use! I bought them for the kids when they were younger, but it has not been until more recently that they really play with them. There are some new sets that have numbers and letters on them, with animals etc to match, and so those will also be under our tree. All of my kiddos are 2.5 or older, and seem to really enjoy the size of the animals and characters, and the portability of them. And, of course, if your little girl is anything like both of mine, anything with a horse on it. There is a puzzle store in the mall that has a barnyard or horse floor puzzle(so cute) that we have had for 4 months or so, and the children get it out and play with it EVERDAY! Some times I am so surprised at the things they spend their time with, especially when it means leaving the noisy, battery sucking, electronic toys alone. OK, I think you have heard enough from me now, I will leave you with one last idea. There is a set of building blocks at ToysRus, from imaginarium I think, that sells for about $25, and includes 200 blocks, that also gets lots of use. Happy shopping!!

Leapfrog! Check out the My First Leapad!

My daughter is 3 and LOVES Princess dress up stuff. She recently got a playhouse Princess "Castle", its more like a tent, but she loves it! Also, for her birthday she got a Schoolhouse game/toy. It is small and folds up like a brief case, has a pointer hand, US map, clock, dry-erase board, and comes with a bell, eraser, crayons, pencils, report cards and certificates and other activities. She just loves this...we play with it all the time! I don't know the exact name of it, but I know it came from Macy's, if that helps? Maybe check out their website www.macys.com.

Good luck! I know exactly how you feel! We have so many toys with two girls, I am slowly weeding through them and getting rid of some! This year, I think Santa is bringing some fun shelves to organize their rooms with! LOL!

My daughter is in the same boat as yours! Way too many dolls and stuffed animals. Some days I feel like she has every toy, animal,doll and movie made. I think a great idea is one of the "dress up carousels". I am going to get my daughter one. It's a tall wooden "carousel" for dress up clothes and accessories. All girls love that!

A few things I just got my daughter for her 3 yo birthday that she loves are:

1. A big mess of art supplies (including those watercolor paint trays with the brushes included, several boxes of different colored washable markers, stamps and stamp pads, and those really cool do a dot art markers with lots of paper and coloring sheets).

I thought about getting an art easel to go with her supplies which I would have liked to do. But we don't have the room and I prefer she do her art at the breakfast table over a hard, cleanable floor with a vinyl table cloth. Then I don't have to worry about the mess. And of course a long sleeve smock as well.

2. A little mermaid scooter. She rides from room to room in the house as well as outside.

3. A CD player for her room with several new CDs and a CD case to store them in. I looked at a couple of CD players that had microphones attached for them to sing into. I thought those were cool but we had already gone overboard so I went for the basic player.

Now we're going to have to think of something for Christmas. I was thinking a nice wooden vanity that she can use now for dress up and can also grow with. I've seen a few cute ones and surprisingly not that much more expensive than the plastic ones that are out right now.

I really get into this if you can't tell.

COSTUMES IN A TRUNK.

My husbands parents got Jack Cooking Classes for Christmas last year. They start at age 21/2-4yr old and up. --Mommy and Me class at the Kids Cooking Co. (preston and royal in Dallas)

Jack got his own apron and his own recipe box) It was so fun and we had the best time together. We use the recipes all the time..and now it's another activity we can do together at home-

- we love art and he loves to watch TV (which I try to not have on all the time) We're outside all the time too---
Another great gift we haven't done is similar, art classes with an instructor etc. Mommy and me.
