We have been using a Roomba on a daily basis for high-traffic areas and a Dyson Animal on a weekly basis for a thorough cleaning for the entire home (we have mainly carpet throughout the home, and hardwood in the kitchen and dining area).
Can anyone recommend a good vacuum cleaner. We have had two in the last 6 years and they always end up breaking. Please advise. Thanks.
Thank you so much for the responses on Vacuum Cleaners. Dyson is the winner. Almost everyone recommended that one. We will be getting one of those. Thanks so much to everyone.

After being completely frustrated with my dirt devil, I went out on a limb and decided to try the Eureka cordless Quick Up stick vac. It was $29 on sale at Target. I absolutely love it. It cleans so much better than my old BIG vacuum and it's so lightweight that my 3 year old daughter can vacuum too! The handle comes off if you want to use it as a hand held. Because it's cordless I can vacuum every room in my 1000 sq ft house in under 10 minutes! Everyone's needs are different, but I love this vacuum.
I would buy a Dyson! It gets up guck that other vacuums do not. In fact our friends have a vacuum, but they borrow our Dyson every week or so to really clean their house. We bought ours a year ago & I always joke that I was going to put on the online review that the vacuum was not only great, but that my husband always vacuums now, so that makes it worth every penny. Here's the deal, if you don't mind having a pink dyson (which I was actually quite excited about!) buy it within the next month from Target. It costs $399.00, but you get a $100.00 target e-card (you can buy a target gift card with that if you want to spend it in the store) & $30.00 of the purchase goes to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. So, in the end you only spend $269.00 & there's free shipping! It was hands down the best purchase we have made in a LONG time. We have woods floors & a few area rugs and it works great on both. Dyson! Its the best i have ever had in my life. My fiance vacuums more than i do & he is the one who bought it & he agrees. I am 48 & he 57 so we have had years of vacuum experience...lol! One night after vacuuming he had had it with the old one (not very old at all) & we went to target to purchase it. We came home & tried it out just for the heck of it (even though we had just vacuumed) & were amazed at all the other vacuum had left behind.
Hi D.,
Last year our vacum broke and at the recommendation of my inlaws we went to Cosco and bought a Dyson (you don't have to get it @Cosco though). It's great. It never loses its power it get into anywhere and it removes allergens from everywhere too. Best of all they say these vacumes last a long time.
I have a book called "Healthy Child, healthy World" which gives GREAT suggestions for getting rid of toxins and chemicals in your house. In the back, they have a resources section which lists the best vacuums (in the author's opinion) that filter the dust and dander etc. removing allergens and all that stuff. They are 1.) Bissell "Healthy Home bagless vacuum with HEPA filtration. 2.) Dyson "DC" vacuums with lifetime HEPA filtration; "asthma-friendly. 3.) Miele vacuums with "super air clean filters" high energy efficiency. I am sure these vacuums are expensive, but probably worth it.
One word: DYSON. They are pricey, but well worth it. I have had mine for a few years now and its my best friend. Its great. I have the yellow one (which I think is now discontinued) - but a friend has the purple one ('the animal) and she loves it too.
