I really liked "What to Expect The First Year" but my saving grace was "Happiest Baby on the Block."
One of my friend is pregnant of her first child. I would like to offer her a good parenting book. I am thinking about some kind of "bible" which focus on the baby's first one or two years. I got these books (long ago!) when we lived oversea and don't know what are available here. If you have a good one to recommend, it would save me reading through the whole parenting section at B&N!
Thanks!
I really liked "What to Expect The First Year" but my saving grace was "Happiest Baby on the Block."
BabyWise is a must!! BabyWise and What to Expect are all she needs
Baby 411 and Toddler 411. These are what I refer to all the time. I wish there was a Kid 411.
Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child was a saving grace to my husband and me as we tried to figure out the whole sleep dilemma! The writing style is a little redundant, but the info was great.
What to Expect the Frist Year and What to Expect The Toddler Years
Your baby's first year (which is developed by the american academy of pediatrics), solve your child's sleep problems ( dr richard ferber), your child's health (barton schmitt) and caring for your baby and young child (steven shelov)
my pediatrician swears by all of these
I loved Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs
Not such a big fan, personally, of the "What to Expect" books. The "Girlfriend's Guides to Surviving......" are good, but make sure to get one that's not outdated. The original was copyrighted in the early 1990s, and much has changed since then.
She will get a book from the Pediatrician "Your Baby's First Year" when the baby is born. That was the best book we had. It was also the only one I read......instincts really kick in quickly, and I found books couldn't replace instinct after a while.
Good luck.
Love and Logic! The all time best parenting book EVER. For the infant stage, though I loved Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child...saved my sanity when mine were babies. Really, those 2 books have shaped the way I parent and I really enjoy being around my boys :). Best wishes to her in her new and adventured-filled life :)!!
The Baby Book by Dr Sears
The "What to Expect..." series is wonderful. It is a question and answer type. You look up the topic of your question. A book for pregnancy, first year, and toddler years.
hi, Baby Wise and Growing Kids God's Way by The Ezzos are great!
The What To Expect books are always good but my fave by far was Baby 411.
baby 411 is what my dr recommended. it touches on a little of everything. It was great
For someone with a newborn -- I would HIGHLY recommend both the book and dvd for Happiest Baby on the Block. I think it was a life saver! Oh and the Dr Sear's baby book is awesome too. I think she's going to need more of an infant care and feeding book at this stage. Both, for me, were my bibles.
