If it were me I would not make all dishes to be free of all things rather have some gluten free options, some dairy free options....In my area there are gluten free stores, but there are gluten free isles in some grocery stores like Whole Foods for gluten free bread.
My mom is gluten free and I notice she eats a lot of corn products. Nachos or tacos might be a good way around gluten. I love to make my own cashew cheese sauce for nachos or just a great chip dip.

It's hard to find good-tasting gluten-free bread. I get Udi bread from Jason's Deli. They sell it by the loaf. HEB is pretty gluten-free friendly. I buy cereals and pastas there. Maybe you can do a cereal snack mix or a kid-friendly pasta salad. Whole Foods has a gluten-free raisin bread that tastes all right toasted and sandwiched up.

If you are interested in desserts, I know of a great bakery--http://marysglutenfree.com/. They might be able to accommodate the dairy and nut restrictions. Otherwise, you can use sorbets and sherbets and fruits to create your own dessert.

ETA: Sherri G., puffed *wheat* is not gluten free, and "Rice Krispies squares" have to be made from gluten-free cereal. The regular Rice Krispies are NOT gluten-free.

if you're doing gluten free for some kids who are omcing ask their mom. I have a friend whose one son is all gluten free and she would be more than happy to provide advice and would probably offer to make stuff to bring.

Good luck!

I know in some places, pizza places (like Los Angeles) even deliver gluten/dairy-free pizzas that are delicious. My daughter bakes gluten-dairy-soy-egg free cupcakes from scratch, but Udi's also makes them, and that is sold in many grocery stores. They have fresh and in the freezer section.

Look to Udi's for breads and bread products, but watch out for nuts in some of their products. Ian's has allergen-free Vegan products such as chicken nuggets and fish sticks.

Some hotdogs actually have dairy/casein/whey so be careful.

You can use corn tortillas instead of bread.

We make our "sandwiches" with no bread. We make wraps using luncheon/deli meats, with lettuce wraps, and put inside things like tomato or celery, pickles, avocado or whatever we feel like. But there are also gluten-free wraps you can buy.

Other ideas are to make hummus (much cheaper than buying it) and use corn chips (check ingredients), green beans, celery, or carrots as finger food to eat the hummus with. And/or have Salsa dips.

Instead of hotdogs, you can use chicken legs, but even those need to be checked. If it says it has "broth" it may actually contain gluten!! I was shocked that they didn't have to list it on the chicken that they were adding gluten to it!!!

M. - I see you live in Houston so you likely have stores as I do in the Chicagoland area that have a wide variety. Many stores have gluten free and/or dairy free products in the same place.

Udi's is a good gluten-free bread

Snyders makes gluten/dairy free pretzels - and I actually liked them more.

There are gluten free chicken nuggets but it's less expensive and tastes better if you buy your own chicken, cut it up, and use gluten/dairy free 'bread crumbs'

Not sure how long you have but go to a few stores and look around - you will be surprised at all that is out there - even pizza crusts.

I had my son on gluten free/dairy free diet for about 4 months - while groceries were more expensive it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.

I babysit a little girl who has gluten and dairy allergies. For snacks she sends Wow Butter or Sun Butter on rice cakes or tortillas, popcorn with coconut butter, potato chips, corn chips, tortilla chips, puffed wheat squares and rice krispie squares.

OMG, M.!!! I have struggled with the same problem! So, my 5 y/o daughter developed Lyme Disease in July, after being bit by a tick. She is on a dairy free, gluten free and sugar free diet for now, because the dr. says it will help her recover faster if she stays away from those foods. Her bday is July 24th, and she had her party on July 27th. Her Lyme Disease began in the beginning of July, so by the time of her party, she had the diet. So what I did, was I just collected a lot of ideas from different websites. You can find lots of websites with good recipies. When buying things like hot dogs at the store, just read the ingriedients, and you should be fine. Good Luck, M.! I totally understand how you feel!

Keep it as naturally gluten/dairy/nut free as possible - most subs don't taste very good, and each kid has their preferences. A big fruit tray, veggie tray, rolled lunch meats (Hormel Naturals is free of gluten and dairy), Jello, Kinnikinnick makes gluten/dairy free oreos and Rice Whip is a dairy-free whipped topping - you could make dirt cups with gummy worms, potato chips with guacamole or bean dip (or a ranch dip made with mayo and coconut milk, or a cheese sauce made with nutritional yeast - both of these recipes are on the internet (vegan ranch dip, vegan cheese dip), hot dogs are ok (Oscar Meyer naturals, Applegate Farms are ok) - cut them to look like octopus so you don't have to serve it on a bun! Chicken nuggets too - Applegate Farms and Ians have GFCF chicken nuggets (ANYTHING by Ians is free of gluten, dairy and nuts). My son has been off of gluten, dairy and soy for 2 years, there's tons of options out there. :)
