Girl Potty Training, Sitting on the Potty but Peeing on the Back of Her Pants

I have a 32 month old daughter that has just become potty trained. She is a pro at it already, but the only problem is that everytime she sits down to go potty, she ends up getting pee on the back of her undies and pants. We pull her pants all the way down to her ankles and we make sure that she is sitting leaning forward a little bit. Help!!! She is getting frustrated having to change her clothes after each time going on the potty. When we are at home, I always have her take her bottoms completely off, but when we are out in public, it is not so easy to get her shoes off, then her bottoms and all back on while others are waiting in line behind us (plus I think public bathrooms are disgusting and don't want to have to be in there any longer than necessary). Not to mention the fact that that is not the solution to the actual problem. How can I get her to get her pee in the potty and not all over herself? (Also, she isn't waiting to long to go either.) Help---PLEASE!!! She is 3 in August and enrolled in preschool and I don't want her to have anxiety over this and misconstrue it for anxiety for going to school!!!

What can I do next?

My daughter went thru the same thing and then when we came down with an infection we went to the doctor. She had/has labial adhesions. It's pretty common in little girls until they are around 11 yrs old when they produce their own hormone to prevent it. Do a google search on labial adhesions and see if she has the same side affects.
Good Luck

I noticed that when I had my little girl spread her legs, like over to the sides of the toilet, that the pee didn't tend to come out towards the front and instead fell straight down into the water. Isn't it funny? I wasn't expecting fountain issues with my daughter, figured it would be my son, but sure enough!!!! Try the legs spread thing, it works....

Both of my girls went through this same phase and all we had to do was teach them how to make sure their legs were closed when they pee. We had our duaghter's put their hand between their kness (this way you know the pants are out of the way too) and "hug" her hand with her knees until she was done going potty. After three times she wanted to do it all by herself and she has not had one spill since! I hope this helps :)

it sounds like there is a chance she is "missing" the potty, i know it seems strange with little girls, but depending on how she is sitting thereis a good chance she is having it go between the seat and the bowl and down onto her pants, it has ntohign to do with control, or anything else, just how she is sitting on the potty. you could try a potty seat, it will place her further back on the bowl and possibly make things easier, but nomatter how far forward she leans if she's on teh edge of the potty she isn't going to get it in. as for public if you get a small no frills seat you can just continue to carry a diaper bag for a little longer and take it with you. best of luck.

I have a 3.5 yo girl that did the same thing. The only thing that helped was to have her lean forward and I had her sit on the side of the potty instead of the front. Hope this helps:-)

My daughter was potty trained at 24 months, she sits w/her legs closed. Works best for us!

My son does this if his pants aren't all the way down. When we put my boys in the potty we make sure on leg is COMPLETELY out of their pants so they can straddle the potty. Sometimes when we're out it's a hassle because we have to take a shoe off, but it's better than changing pants!

I'm not sure if this is helpful but when I potty-trained my children, I turned them around so they were facing the back of the toilet. Everything made it into the toilet with no problem.

I am in the process of potty training my daughter and whenever she has to go the potty I take her pants off all the way. My daughter dosen't go by herself but if yours does just tell her to take them off so at least she won't pee on her clothes. I hope this helps!!

Hi, G. --

Do you think your daughter's legs might be too close together when she's sitting on the pot? I know that, with my daughter, if her legs are too tightly together, her pee will pool between her legs and then drip down.

I, too, absolutely hate public bathrooms. We do everything we can to cover the seat and pull her panties down inside her pants so their shielded from any contact w/ the toilet. I don't like her to be in any more contact with any of it than she has to be.

I think the other suggestions here have been great! But do check her "position" and see if it could be the culprit here.

Good luck! I'm sure this has been very frustrating and discouraging.

She isn't sitting back far enough on the seat and her legs aren't far enough apart. I had my daughter sit on the side of adult toilets instead of on the front because she could balance better. I also trained her on a potty chair built for children, much closer to the ground and easier for her to use than an adult toilet.
It is better to take off the clothes even in public than it is to have to change her outfit every time she goes to the potty.

I agree with the other post... try spreading the legs alittle more... and try having her sit either further back on the potty or up closer.... whichever way works better for her!!

Try do to be too frustrated as this might make her regress in the potty training....even though she has mastered.... She still is very young!
