Gift Suggestions - Columbus,OH

My friend's husband was made partner and she's throwing him a party to celebrate. It's also the day before his 40th birthday. We want to get him a gift to help celebrate. My husband will take a bottle of something nice - that's usually what he does. But does anyone know of any fun, funky bar supplies or anything fun for a 40-something guy?

What can I do next?

Pottery Barn has a cool cocktail shaker that has recipes engraved on the side of it. At least they had it 7 years ago when I worked there.

A nice bottle of something is perfect, no need to add "fun and funky" barware. Here's why I say this... my husband and I enjoy wine. We go to tastings, wine festivals and have taken classes (pre-kids) on wine pairings, etc. It's a hobby and most people know that, so guess what we get all the time... Yup. "Fun and Funky" barware. We've got more "gadgets", bottle decorations (including bottle aprons with our college mascots), wine storage, etc than we could ever use. We return what we can, but anything purchases from a small store we have to keep and it ends up in a drawer. We probably have 20 different bottle stoppers at this point.

The only we received recently at our housewarming party that we did NOT already have were outdoor wine goblets. Those have gotten much use already.

So, think "usable" rather than "fun and funky" because your taste may be quite different than theirs and make sure to include a gift receipt so that they can return the items if they don't need more decanters!

If I were you, I would take the "total amount" you were thinking of spending a splurge on a beautiful bottle of wine or a nice bottle of unique whiskey (whatever he likes) rather than buying a cheaper bottle and adding something to it.

If he is a drinker, maybe a nice shot glass engraved with something from Things Remembered.

Celebrate the promotion, the birthday, the friendship whatever you wish to "mark" on the glass or get one for the bday and one for the promotion etc.

You could try uncommongoods.com or do a search for unique bar ware. Etsy has some neat stuff sometimes, maybe someone on there sells bar wares.

If you feel you want to add to it then maybe a gift card to a movie or a board game

They usually sell "bar" gift packs that include drink glasses, a recipe of fun drinks, etc. Many times they come with bottles of drink mixes like daquiris, margaritas, etc. Also, if you have a TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross nearby, they usually have lots of gift packs in their stores which are very reasonably priced.
