My DD turns 1 in December and I am starting to plan for it. I was really wanting to do a giant cupcake for her smash cake and small cupcakes for everyone else. I was wondering if anyone has make one of these and frosted it and made it look fabulous? I am very excited to do this and want all tips and advice I can get!

What can I do next?

How about making cupcakes for everyone and making a cake for her that
LOOKS like a cupcake?
Regular cake mix, batter, mold.
Turn over into a bowl w/a square piece of pretty tissue. When cake circle
goes into bowl it will push out the edges of the tissue paper making it
look like a cupcake paper.
Also, another idea....cupcake pops. Round cake batter on sticks.
So cute. My friend makes them. Not sure exactly how but saw a recipe in Raley's magazine and am sure you can find it/google it on Cooking Channel.

It's pretty easy to do. How you frost it depends on you. I like cupcake swirls, but for the giant cupcakes I dont use a tip, I squeze it out through the coupler. If you've never done swirls before...
classic swirl:

Wiltons website give you different suggetions for tips. For teh classic I use a 1M tip and you can find it anywhere.
I like to do the big ones for themes. Like for halloween I make it look like a haunted house and dress it up. I stick milano cookies on the bottom with icing and write RIP in them, etc. For easter I baged those sugar cookies that have images on them and stuck them on the bottom. Etc. Since it's so big just use your imagination.
Good Luck!
ETA: With the response below about burning. I am able to put mine in the middle, but she's right if you have no choice but to put it lower it's going to cook faster on the bottom. If that happens with you and it burns a bit, trim it off with a sharp long knife. You will end up trimming the bottom of the cupcake and the top or "point" of it. It will just look a tad shorter and for the top you can make up for it with icing. Hope that helps. Oh and she's right....practice!

I bought the 'as seen on TV' giant cupcake. My daughter (age 5) did it with her babysitter one night. Problem was that it didn't cook all the way through. The bottom was over cooked by the time the top cooked--You have to remember that the giant cupcake molds are considerably taller/bigger than the normal cupcake. Normal cupcakes have 2 inches of batter; you end up putting much more batter into the giant mold... plus the bottom bakes faster because you put the oven rack lower (closer to the coils) to make room for the molds to fit into the oven.

Anyway, it was a disappointment for us. I'd definitely practice with it several times before you try it for the party.

They sell those big cupcake molds (as seen on TV!) in the stores now. I have seen them in drugstores like Rite-Aid etc...

Isn't youtube wonderful? There's special pan you can buy. It looks quite big though.
