Getting Play-dough Out of Carpet

I foolishly let my 4 year old play with Play-dough without putting a plastic mat down on the carpet. I was able to get most of the dried pieces up, but there are a few spots where the Play-dough got smooshed into the carpet and is now stuck on. Does anyone know how to get dried Play-dough out of carpet? If I try to pull it off, I'm afraid it will rip the carpet fibers out.

I know I have heard of some trick involving wax paper or a paper grocery bag and an iron, but I'm thinking that was for melted crayon. Anyone have a tip like that for Play-dough??

Thanks in advance!

I have an all natural stain remover that works FABULOUSLY on all sorts of tough stuff - including Play-Doh in carpet. Feel free to private message me and I can tell you more. I've been using this stuff for over 7 years and with 4 kids in the house, we've used it on all sorts of stuff. :) It always works wonders.

Isn't Play-do still water based. You should be able to wet the small areas and soften it.

I agree that, once the play-dough has dried out completely, hitting it with a mallet or hammer should break it up just fine. A cleaner may be needed after you vacuum if the play-dough actually stained the carpet.

My stepmom says to hit it with a hammer. It should break up into little pieces and you'll be able to vacuum it up.

Once its dry, take a stiff brush and rub over it. It should just crumb up and come off.

I have a 2 yr old and a 4yr old that did the same thing. I took my tea kettle and got boiling water poured it on the Play Dough and it came right up. Just have to be careful depending on the color and the purple left a small stain however I was able to get that up with my steam cleaner.
