You have to let play-dough dry before trying to remove it, or it smears and gets ground in more. We always let puke dry on carpets, too, because it's easier to remove that way.
Ever had one of those mornings??? Sorry if this is gross, but I'd like to see if I can fix this... While changing diapers for my 2 year old and 3 month old, apparently my dog got up on our activity table and ate an entire container of red play-doh (just the play-doh, not the plastic). She then proceeded to puke it up onto our off-white area rug. Now I've got play-doh and puke smushed into the rug. I've already tried some 7th generation carpet spot remover with no luck. Any ideas? The dog is fine now.
May the rest of the day be boring... :o)
Apparently using cleaning solution isn't the way to go, but I had to get the puke up. I'd still appreciate any ideas on how to fix this once it's wet.

This sounds crazy, but it worked on our white carpet. You can only do this on white carpet...let the stain dry, then use some hair bleach on it. I use the Sally bleach for body hair (extra strength) - you can buy it at Walmart. Just mix up the bleach, apply it to the stain, let it dry, then vacuum up. This got out some really old stains that nothing else worked on.
I'd call a reputable carpet cleaner. They have special cleaners made just for red, and just for puke. My BIL has a carpet cleaning business, and we have used him several times, since my son likes to lean over the bed and puke on the floor when he gets sick. The cleaner works wonders. If you value your white rug at all, it might be worth the $$ to check it out.
I have used this on red kool-aide stains on carpet but it takes awhile to get it all out and lots of patience. Get a white towel wet with water and soap, put it over the red spot and lay an iron over it. You will be able to see the red die transfer onto the white towel. It takes awhile to get all the stain out but well worth it in the end.
maybe a solution of oxyclean?
Have you tried peroxide? I know it really works in getting blood stains out of carpet.
Good luck and God bless!
E. - you just made my day with your post. I am off for a lengthy abdominal ultra sound and I think I will share your story with anyone willing to listen.
Aren't Stay At Home Parents the best? If you were at work, there'd be all types of adults lending you hand with your disaster. But you are all on your own.
I would sprinkle baking soda of the red stain, followed by white vinegar. Watch it foam with your 2 year old. Let it sit for at 30 minutes. Then clean up. Place a big box or bucket upside down over it, so no one tramples over it.
GL!
Try Dawn dish soap with a little bit of water. Dawn has worked on my taupe colored carpets when the kids get playdoh on them (which happens alot)!.
