Hi - Anyone out there know of an incredible German Chocolate cake recipe? I would like to make one for my boyfriend, but it would be my first cake for him and I want it to be good. I know he would be happy with any german chocolate cake I made, but I want to knock his socks off!

I love allrecipes.com, too. I look for recipes that are 5 stars or 4.5 stars and have lots of reviews. Here is the german chocolate one that rated a 4.5 and had 259 reviews.

I use www.allrecipes.com for just about all my recipes. This website is free to access and has thousands of recipes that people submit, rate and review. I love the searches that you can do - by ingredients, cuisine, dietary need, prep level and style, etc. They also have great cooking articles and video clips.

One of the best parts is that you can see what people rated the recipe and read their reviews. They usually include tips to make the recipe better and when you have hundreds of people testing and critiquing a recipe, it comes out pretty good!

You can save all your favorite recipes in your own online recipe box as well. And if the number of servings isn't right for your family, you put in the number of servings you want and the recipe will recalculate the ingredients for you according to the number of servings you want.

I just made one for my father in-law's birthday last weekend and it was a big hit.

4 ounces sweet cooking chocolate
1/2 cup water
2 cups sugar
1 cup stick maragarine or butter, softened
4 large eggs
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
Coconut-Pecan frosting

For the cake:

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom and sides of 3 round pans, 8 x 1 1/2 or 9 x 1 1/2 inches. Line bottoms of pans with waxed papaer or cooking parchment paper.

2. Heat chocolate and water in 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring untnil chocolate is melted; cool.

3. Beat sugar and margarine in medium bowl with electric mixer on high speed until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Beat in chocolate and vanilla on low speed. Add remaining ingredients except frosting. Beat on low speed just until blended. Pour into pans.

4. Bake 8-inch rounds 35-40 minutes, 9-inch round 30-35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire rack. Remove waxed papaer. Cool completely.

5. Fill layers and frost top of cake with Coconut-Pecan frosting, leaving side of cake unfrosted.

Frosting:

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup stick maragarine or butter
1 cup evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 large egg yolks
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

1. Mix sugar, maragarine, milk, vanilla and egg yolks in 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat about 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick.

2. Stir in coconut and pecans. Cool about 30 mninutes, beating occasionally, until spreadable. Fills one 8-inch or 9-inch two- or three-layer cake.

Here is one for German Choc Cheesecake, it was my husbands grooms cake at our wedding

1 German Choc Cake mix - make according to package

In separate bowl mix:
2 pkg cream cheese
1 1/2 c sugar
Slowly add 4 eggs (mixed) to cream cheese mix on low

Take one half of cake mix and pour into 13x9 (greased and floured)pan, pour blobs of cream cheese mixture ontop and then take a knife and blend. Then pour remaining cake mix ontop. Bake at 325 for 70-75 min. Cool 1 hr and frost.

Frosting:

mix and heat to 160 degrees:
1 c sugar
1 c evaporated milk
1/2 c butter
3 egg yolks (beat)

then add:
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 c coconut
1 c pecans

It's real simple to make, my husband even made it for me once and his specialty is pancakes from a box. But it is so so so good.
