Georgia Lottery-Funded PreK Programs in Cherokee County

Hi Ladies,

My soon-to-be four year old daughter will be doing the PreK this coming school year. We were hoping to take part in the lottery-funded programs that are available. My question is whether any of you have any experience or knowledge about Kid Connection? There are three of them that have space (this alone is odd), but these three are also about fifty bucks less per month for their meal fee than their competitors. I wonder why there is so much availability here and why are they so inexpensive? I took my oldest to a KC off of Hickory Road and swore never to go back.

Anyone know anything?

Thanks,

E.

Not sure about Cherokee county but in Columbia county the Daycare prek programs don't fill up until after the Public school spots are chosen. And even then there is a waiting list that usually gets down to the 5th or 6th child before the school year starts.
Also you shouldn't be paying much for the food bill for your one child. It should only be something like 2-3$ a day. if it is more you need to be asking what all the $ is going for.

I don't have any information on the pre-k program, Kid Connection. But, I did a ton of research for a GA pre-k program in my area, Alpharetta, prior to choosing one for my children. I will tell you that after exhaustive research (visiting each one, interviewing the director, etc.) it became apparent that the best ones were full and the less desirable had openings. I was persistent at my top two and was able to get my child in to my #1. Basically, I kept in touch, always flattering the owner/director with what a great job their doing and letting them know that their school was my first choice. Eventually, my daughter got to the top of the waiting list (I truly think it was my continued communication that got us there). I was careful not to over do it though. Good luck!

My daughter is also in the Pre-K at Hasty Elem., and we love it there. My son went to Pre-K at Kid Connection, but he went to the one off Hickory Flat Hwy. We didn't have a problem with them, but just so you know, I think (not positive, though) that all three Kid Connections in Cherokee have the same owner. I know the slots are limited, but I highly recommend the Pre-K programs inside of the regular school.

If I were you I would check up on the getting into a couple of the lotteries for a regular pre-k at an elementary school first. My son has some special needs so I never had to be part of a lottery to get a spot. He goes to hasty elementary, it's past target off 20 down brown industrial dr. I'm really happy with his inclusion program (it's a regular class with extra help). I'm not sure what other elementaries have pre-k programs, you can find out on the cherokee county schools website. I have another year before my second son has to go to pre-k. He does not have any special needs, so I plan on getting into every lottery I can, and if he doesn't get a spot only then will I sign up for a program with a daycare type facility. I just think they are run differently when there is a daycare also. I hope this helps! If you have any other questions about how Cherokee county pre-k works just let me know.
