I bought a George Forman last night and used it to cook some steaks. I loved the way that it cooked, but am having problems figuring out how to clean it ... do I just take a wet/soapy rag and clean it like that? Do you spray something on it? Please help!!!

What can I do next?

I don't usually spray mine with anything. I've had mine for a good long time and use it a lot. It's so easy to clean!

As soon as I take off whatever I've cooked and unplugged it, I get 2 paper towels and fold them so they'll fit on the grill, wet them & wring a little so they're not too drippy, lay them in and shut the lid.

After we eat, all I have to do is wipe out the residue -- which usually takes the original paper towels and another one or two. Sometimes, I'll use the dishrag to get under the lip of the grill or on the outside.

Let it air dry and put it away.

Ha! Why can't you ask your friend! lol. We just hang ours over the sink and use a soapy scrubber and scrub it out. That way it's not drowning in water but giving it a good cleaning.

Hope this helps :>

sandra said exactly what i was going to - i am on the lookout for one with removeable/dishwasher safe plates - they do make them, i've seen them! to clean mine a trick i use is to turn it back on for a minute or two just to warm up the gunk - it comes off a lot easier that way. then i use a paper towel to get the majority of it off, before using a wet/soapy rag - but not too wet of course. and make sure you unplug it before you start cleaning so it doesn't get too hot.

Wipe it with a wet rag while it's hot. Everything will come right off

I use Shaklee's cleaning products. I spray the household cleaner on there and wipe it with a paper towel.

I just wanted to point out that they need to be cleaned REALLY thoroughly or it will start to smell fishy! I thought I had cleaned my old one well enough and it started to smell like nasty fish in the cupboard.

Since you're using a new model, you can just push down on the side bars and release the upper and lower cooking trays. Then just wash them as you would anything else.

If it's an old model you bought off eBay, keep the unit hot and wipe with a wet and soapy rag. It should come off very easily. Use the scraping bar provided to scrape off anything stuck.

I hold mine over the sink carefully so the water doesn't just pour into the bottom and I wash it with soapy water and a washrag, not a rough pad, I used one before and it damaged the surface of my last one. I gently pour water over it to get the soap residue off then wipe it dry with paper towels.

Its a love hate relationship. They work great but they need to make them with removable insets that can be easily washed. When I use mine, not to often because it is a pain to clean, I angle it over the edge of the sink and scrub it. I then take my sprayer and wash the soap off. It makes a mess but it works. I haven't found a better way to do it yet.
