And now I need to know what you domestic diva's use to get cooked on spills off a black top stove. It's some sauce, other undentifiable liquids cooked in to the stove top , plus God knows what. I am so not mad at hubs becasue the food was delish and I didn't cook for 3 days!!! Whatever you all use please let me know. I usually wipe down my stove when I cook and never really had to deep clean it. Can't really use a brillo as it is black and I'm afraid to scratch it. It's a gas stove and only the "trivets" can come off, so I can't soak any parts of the stove but the "trivets". Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I either use degreaser or lysol kitchen cleaner. I spray it on the spills then leave a wet paper towel over it (usually warm water). After a few minutes, or longer depending on how bad the spills, it comes off pretty easy. Plus if you don't want to use a brillow pad, but want something with some oomph try using grooved dish towel. Its stronger then sponges, paper towels, etc. Good Luck.

Dr. Bronner's soap (mixed with water) dissolves food without hurting the enamel on your appliances. I use this stuff to clean almost everything in my home and to clean out the uphostery in my car. It's magical (no joke!). Here's the website:

I have a silver top so I don't use Brillo on mine either for fear of scratching it. I use Oven Off oven cleaner on really tough messes. Buy the one that is low fumes, spray it on and let it sit for 30-60 minutes (you'll see the food turn to liquid) and then just wipe it clean. Repeat if necessary. My husband and I are both messy cooks so we do this A LOT! Good luck.

When I have things like that I take wet rags and lay them on whatever I have spilled and let them sit there to loosen it up then we use the lysol wypes with the scrubby side. They are in a purple container and they aren't as abrasive as a brillo pad, but it does work to get the softened up stuff off. We have a gas top stove and ours works the same way yours does so I know how hard it can be.

Hope this helps,

L.

PS: congrats on the cooking hubby... my husband's specialty is chicken nuggets.

I have a cleaner for my smooth top range called Ceramabrite (sp?)

It works wonders to get those burnt on stains off. I'm sure it would work with your range.

Is it a glass top? If so, you can go to Sears and buy a bottle of glass top stove cleaner. (ok, walking into kitchen, looking under sink... Its called Cook Top cleaning cream for smooth top ranges, for radiant/halogen/Ceran glass-ceramic cooktops) It's a cream cleaner which won't scratch the surface. It's not expensive... But the only place I've ever bought it is from Sears. Maybe you can find it online if you don't have a Sears near you? I would try to loosen the cooked on bubbles with a wet rag overnight first, then use the stove top cleaner on anything left after you've cleaned as much as you can off. Good luck!

I've tried two different things for baked on and spilled over food. Get a wash rag really wet, set in on the spill, may take hours or even over nite. The other one is pour dish soap in that area and let it soak over night, by morning it should be softened enough to easily wipe away. I've gotten rid of the stubbornest spillovers.

I love when hubby cooks! :)
I use a brillo on my inlaw's blacktop and it's fine. Other than that what I do is use a scraper to get the major junk off, then spray lysol all over, let it sit for about 3-4 minutes, wipe away, then use a magic eraser to get the dried oil, etc.

I saw this on a nanny type reality show. Take dry laundry detergent and sprinkle it on top of the stain, then wet/moisten the detergent with a dripping cloth or small amounts from a cup of water. Come back later and wipe it off. I tried it and it worked pretty good.

A very wet paste of baking soda, left overnight under a wet paper towel, will soften most or all of the residue overnight, with no toxic fumes. You can add a little detergent to it to work even faster on greasy residue.

Sometimes a repeat will be helpful for really burned-on stuff. But it works amazingly well for almost anything. I also boil a little b. soda and water in pans that have stuck on or burned on gunk, and it cuts right through most of it without scrubbing.
