I am seeking new upholstered furniture for my family room. I have looked at all of the well-known furniture stores (Thomasville, Ashley, Basset, etc...) but was wondering if there were some different/unique places out there that I do not know about.

What can I do next?

Two of my favorites are Carol House and Rothman...granted they don't ALWAYS have unique items but it is definitely worth a look. We had been looking for a coffee table for 3 years and finally found one at Carol House...not kid friendly but beautiful...a glass round top with a rod iron clock and legs on it. I was not able to find something like that anywhere. Good luck!

Try looking at some sustainable furniture. It is a little more expensive but good for the environment.
If you want this furniture to last you need to look at the constuction as well. Engineered hardwood is good. Try Ethan Allen too. sometimes finding used pieces and then recovering them in a fabric that suits your style would work too. Mixing styles is always more fun. An anitque chest or table with a more contempory sofa or chair. Makes the mix interesting. Use some pieces like old luggage for tables by the furniture instead of standard looking ones. Think outside the box. Cut a table in half and bolt it to a wall for a bedside table. Use your imagaination and it will come to you.
Good Luck!!

You must try Room Service Fabrics they are in O'Fallon, MO right off highway 40 we just got our couch, loveseat and chair there and you can pick from a millon materials (I reccomend the microfiber it cleans SO EASY with kids/pets). Your furniture is custom made for you and the quality is incredible. The price was totally affordable and then they helped me pick coordinating fabrics and made throw pillows and drapes. My room looks so AWESOME I can't wait to do more rooms. This place is highly recommended, the girls that work there are so nice & funny. Sorry to ramble, but you should check them out. Their phone # is ###-###-####. Good Luck!

The BEST KEPT SECRET for awesome unique furniture and accessories is Josef Mykel. It's in Chesterfield off of Long road. Go hwy 40 west to Long road, two lights to right on Edison, 17826. If you dont find the furniture you need in the store they will show you pics online and order one of them. It's absolutely fabulous at Christmas and they completely remake the entire store into a xmas store. Good luck!

There are some really unique stores in the University City Loop (Delmar, between Big Bend and Skinker) that offer beautiful pieces in all design styles. Also, if you go at the right time, there are great pieces at Value City Furniture or Weekends Only stores. Finally, check the outlet/catalog returns section of the JC Penny website...many times there will be high quality pieces at very reasonable prices, and you can pick up your merchandise at the JC Penny Catalog Outlet store at the Jamestown Mall on North Lindbergh.

Good luck!

If you go to the small unique shops you'll find better quality of furniture is much better than the other places. There use to be a place called Lamberts (something like that I think) it had great furniture. Lazy Boy store is great - off Lindbergh by South County Mall. Other than that I've been looking for two years and haven't found a couch or love seat that was good quality and that you wouldn't sink into.

There is a really fun furinture store on the loop. I think it is on the same side as riddles wine bar and iron age tatoos.
