Hi All. A friend and I were discussing some of the modern house cleaning things we dislike doing and avoid for some reason. When we were talking about it we imagined women from the past poo pooing us on how lazy we were (think about it...women had to draw up water long ago just to begin anything...to wash the dishes, the clothes, to cook). So anyhow my friend and avoid unloading the dishwasher a bit.

What household chores do you avoid and why?

So What Happened?

I just read these super funny and wonderful replies. Thank you. You made my weekend. I have not only found out that I am NORMAL but I almost couldn't stop laughing. I am always amazed at how much women can bond together when they have a common goal.....What would this goal be? Thank You! V. (of bumble bee teas).

Hey all of you super funny moms! I am organizing a Tea Tasting Party at Blondies Cafe in St. Paul of April. If you are interested drop me a line stating what days and hours work for you. You can bring your kids as they have a space we can rent and we can have her make us a special treat (we just need to chip in to cover the cost of the room, sweets and a small amount for the tea I will bring). Have 8 moms interested already!

I hate cleaning so much that I hired a housekeeper to do the daily maintenance of the house. In my mind, paying someone who LIKES to clean is well worth the money!

I HATE laundry. It's so repetative. everyweek...load laundry in the laundry basket, take it out, load it into the washer, take it out, load in dryer, take it out, load the laundry basket, take it out, put it in the drawers. Then, the whole thing happens again in a few days. ISH!

Fun Question and I love reading the responses. I run a daycare without a dishwasher so even though I hate it I have to do the dishes everyday!
BUT what I really hate is scrubbing the shower/tub. We have nasty rusty water so the bathroom turns a orange color if I don't scrub it once a week, and its a PITA! lol

I avoid sweeping. I feel like i could do it 10 times a day and still not get all the pesky crumbs. Also it is like imposssible to get under some corners of the kitchen, and I know there are so many crumbs in the corners! My husband is a chef by nature, he cooks all the time, but is horrible at cleaning....

I don't have a dishwasher, so sometimes the dishes do pile up a bit, but not too often. However Mopping is my choice. I sweep regularly. (You have to when you have a toddler putting everything in her mouth!) But I am very guilty of going a month or two between mops. Shhh- don't tell! Also, the desk/bill area gets quite cluttered during the week. Receipts/ Junk Mail/ Sales Papers etc We have meade it a Sunday ritual of clearing it off.

Oh and I wanted to add a great quote from Phyllis Diller I think we can all relate to: "Cleaning your house while the kids are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing."

It's so hard to believe that before my daughter was born I would fold and refold her tiny little clothes... I HATE folding those little clothes now! So laundry and dishes are what I dislike. Now that I'm pregnant and can't stand the smell of the sink I'm lucky enough that my partner does all the dishes and loads the laundry (i hate the basement smell too). But now her ultimate goal is to get a dishwasher.

hi from MN. i do not like to clean the toilet. So i buy Kaboom or anything else that goes in the water. Then flushing takes care of the inside anyway. I've had my son of 9 yrs make some great messes. We have 2 toilets. So i agree with you that at this day and age we are somewhat lucky people.

I used to be really anal and felt like I was sposed to be cleaning all the time, but I've learned to not care. I know that being organized and tidy is healthy and makes your life more efficient and easy, but cleaning, screw that. Let the dusk collect, let the floor get sticky. I do one major clean-up (where I get down on my hands and knees and scrub!) once every 2 months and then just forget about it. It is the best routine yet.

I tend to avoid housework in general ;) At least when I'm feeling depressed/tired/anxious. Most of all though, I hate cleaning the toilet. I don't like toilets. I don't mind sitting on them to do my business, but anything that gets my face too close or my hands on any part other than the lid and seat gives me the willies...

I avoid emptying the dishwasher too!!! But I sure do love to put any and every available dirty dish into it!!! Even ones that I know I can clean better in the sink. Such as a dirty oatmeal bowl or a pizza cutter!!! Sometimes I am sooo lazy that I will run a cycle of dishes when the dishwasher is only half full then when it is done if I have a full sink I will stick in those dishes with the clean ones and run it again. I know I am the epitome of LAZINESS. But hey I have an active 21 month old little boy who adores opening the dishwasher and standing on it. So sometimes faster is better. Great question. As for the chore I like the least. There are sooo many, hmmm. I hate folding clothes and cleaning the tub/shower. But what really irks me is that my husband will do chores but he does them wrong. Such as putting away the clothes in the wrong places so that I have no clue where it is. He too leaves all the junk from his pockets all over the place. Receipts, papers, change, strange little gadgets. I continually dump all of his stuff in a drawer. Hee hee. Sometimes he doesn't realize for a while. I swear men purposely do chores half asked so that we will do them for them. lol....

FOLDING CLOTHES!!!! I hate it! I'll leave a load in the dryer for days until my husband realizes it, turns on the dryer to unwrinkle everything and then he folds! I'm not sure why-but I soooooo dislike folding clothes-maybe it's all of the little clothes from the kids? trying to sort a gazillion little socks and pull everything rightside out? Anyway! I'm a bit like you witht he untidy/hypertidy thing-although it seems that things are untidy more often than not-it only takes a matter of minutes for the children to turn the tidy house to a disaster area with their toys/backpacks/princess clothes, etc.

I like seeing all the responses as well.
I used to be the most organized and spotless type person. Over time and since children this has slowly changed. I procrastinate more and is just made worse by less time and more chores. I don't mind doing most chores, but some of them are so much more difficult with 2 little ones. What I put off the most is filing papers/bills and such. I have big piles to file from years ago. I also tend not to clean the master bath very much as only my hub and I are in there, so noone sees it. Is kinda disgusting, I know. I keep hoping someday my hub will give in and clean it, but then I finally must. It's not that I don't like doing laundry, but the whole process takes so much longer and seems never ending with kids. If I skip a few days, I get way behind and there are no clothes left to wear. My daughter's now at the age where she loves taking all her clothes out and trying them on throughout the day, so it really gets to be a fruitless endeavor.

I hate my dishwasher so I doubt I would be poo-poohed on that, I just never understood the concept of washing the dishes just to let the dishwasher wash them again. So, I just wash them by hand and don't really mind doing it to tell the truth.

But ...

If I could have a maid to come in and sweep, mop and vaccum my floors, I would LOVE it. I abhor cleaning the floors. If you come to my house, trust me, you CANNOT eat off the floor. All my dishes are clean, my laundry is done/folded/put away, my furniture is dusted and my beds are made. However, I guarantee that my floors are dirty with crumbs all over them. I kind of wish we could go back to the old wooden, dirt covered floors so I didnt' feel so bad lol

I avoid dusting... because it seems like a never ending battle. I will wipe everything down and the next day, there is already a film of dust (or at least it seems that way). We don't have a furnace (electric heat only) and I vacuum so it's not like we NEVER clean, but the dust seems to manifest itself so quickly that I feel like that's all I do... dust, dust, dust. I know what you mean about the contrast of a nice clean house... I feel the same way! ;o)

Vacuuming. I do it, but I just don't like it very much. It's loud, heavy, and kind of freaks out my baby. So I tend to put it off a few days more than I should.

You wouldn't be able to tell by the way my house is soooooo disorganized...but I can be pretty anal about the way thing are done. I pretty much hate about all of the chores but I do most of them because my husband can be such a slob. I put off unloading the dishwasher and picking up the kids toys, because hubby is capable of that. Also, putting clothes away after washing and drying (even that he screws up sometimes by putting things where they don't belong - doesn't everyone know the difference between a kitchen and bathroom towel????) I also put off vaccuuming just because my son is infatuated with it and I can't put it away when I'm done or he stands by the closet door screaming for an hour (ha,ha) - I hope he likes it as much when it becomes HIS chore to do!!! I know this is getting long but there is one more thing. My husband owns a construction company and he empties out his pockets of receipts every night and they will sit for months on counters, dressers, desks or wherever else he puts them...I really avoid picking that stuff up. I feel it's his responsibility plus I don't know what he needs (for writing off) and what is garbage. My Mom (who is from the old country where women are almost subserviant), hates coming to my house and when she does babysit my kitchen is usually cleaned by the time we get home!!!

i think i try to avoid most cleaning around the house. i would way rather help someone else move or fix big thing around thier house than just pick up a mop or a vaccuum around my own house. i wish i had a dishwasher to avoid. :-) i think its because my own mind may be cluttered and unclean. duno?

Sweeping and Mopping~ it takes Sooooooo long and I have to move a million things like kitchen chairs, rugs, shoes, etc. I hate it. If it was quick I'd do it more often. I sweep and mop about once a week. My cousin has 2 kids and told me she only mops once a year. She says it's pointless it just gets dirty so fast anyways. That kinda grossed me out and I was like ok atleast I do it once a week. If I have to I'll do a quick sweep every few days.
