I have an LG front loader that I got in July. I've loved it so far. It uses less water and detergent, but the cycles do take longer than my top loader did. I always leave the door open to let it dry out between loads (just about every day--cloth diapers!), but I also use the "Tub Clean" cycle once a month which is bleach only and it cleans the tub.
I have the Bosch front loader washer and dryer and absoulutely love them. We have had them for almost three years and have "so far" not had any problems whatsoever with them. I love that the dryer has a Wrinkle Release mechanism that makes the clothes look like I just ironed them. I can also pause the washer to put clothes in that I have forgotten to put in which unlocks the door. I have never had any problems with mold in the washer either since I also run a bleach cycle about once a month and also leave the door opened slightly for two or three hours until it dries out some.
Good Luck :)
Be careful as some front loaders hold water and smell like mold! I have the top loading kenmore that doesn't have the agitator in the middle like the front loaders and it's awesome. Energy eff and mid line price. My previous Kenmores lasted over 20 years and I got rid of them cuz I wanted new.
Sears has great payment options
Great advice on brands. Here is a little something to think about in terms of price. . . try the sears outlet at Grapevine Mills. About two years ago our dryer pooped out on us and we needed one in a hurry and went to GVM and found a great LG (had a dent on the side that faced the wall) and we got it for a fraction of the cost. We decided to go forward and get a front loader for efficiency and stackability about a year ago and went back to GVM as our first stop. We found the matching washer again, FRACTION of the cost with no damage at all. We speculated it was because it was a year later and not the new "it" washer.
Do your homework and then head over to see what is on the sales floor it was worth the time.
We just recently purchased the LG front loader washer and dryer and LOVE them! I've had a front loader overseas for 3 yrs now and you do need to leave the door open or mold will grow. If it does get on the rubber piece in the front it is better to just replace that piece. Our first flat the people had used the washer and then closed it and moved out. The washer was shut for 6 months with moisture in there. It was disgusting. Only way to fix it was to replace that part.
We purchased front load machines that were very expensive years ago. The washer and dryer have both broken and had to have repair man out 3 times. Each time the repairman comes out it cost $300 - $400 because of the computer boards that they have to replace. I wish we never bought the new front load machines! ****Our washer won't allow me to use hot water now only cold water. It is time to call the repair man again or just buy a new washer and dryer!
Love my LG washer and Dryer.....when I was looking in January there was an overwhelming positive comments for LG.....we are very pleased with them.
EDIT: saw comment about mold....I always keep my washer door open when not in use....just a habit and I run just bleach in it about every 6 weeks....no issues at all......love it. I wash 1/3 the loads now....it holds so much more so I am able to get caught up so quickly now.....LOVE THEM.
We love our LG and yes it does get clothes cleaner than our old model did. You do have to keep the washer door and soap drawer open until dry on all front loads.
Editing to ad this. I am extremely allergic to mold and can detect easily. In the 2 years we have had our front load we haven't had any mold grow. But I do leave the washer door open for days after I run it and make sure the soap area is dry too. No mold growth at all in 2 years.
I had a front loading LG for about 4 years. I got rid of it because it would not stop stinking and made my clothes stink. I left the door open, I left the detergent drawer open, I dried the gasket after each laundry day, I drained the filter box regularly, cleaned with bleach, tried the cleaning tablets sold for stinky washers, tried vinegar and the smell would not go away. I could smell it as soon as I walked in my house. Mildew tended to grow in the detergent cup and it was at a place that was very difficult to get to. I loved some of the features - my loads very rarely got off balance and it had some great cycle choices that my top loader doesn't, but the smell outweighed the good. :-(
We bought the base model frigidare frontloads almost 5 years ago and have been trilled with them! Of course I would love the new high end ones that have all the bells and whistles but, I will use mine until they quit. We have never had a problem with either the washer or dryer and they have exellent performance.
We bought a Kenmore from sears in 2003 and just LOVE them! They are awesome. We bought the eco ones that saved more water, etc. This was one of the best investments I think my hubby and I have made! Love, love, love them! Our front loader washing machine broke a few months ago and we bought a used top loader from a friend and it's not nearly the same "clean" as our front loader. We are getting our front loader repaired this month and selling the top loader. There's no comparision with how much better a front loader is.
Depends on the size and model. I will tell you, last year I saw a pair of front-loaders at Sears on Black Friday, 5am-11am, for $600 for the pair. YES that's right for the pair. The regular price was over $1300 but that was the special. YOu might want to wait till black friday again to watch for sales.
Also, I recommend Sears Outlets for good prices. However, they aren't a HUGE amount lower than Lowes, and Lowes will deliver them for free.
One other thing, Front loaders are nice but they also don't have the features that you might like. I am going to get a new set soon and I have decided to get top loaders again, because I like to occasionally soak my clothes in the washer (can't do this with a front loader). Also, for the money, you get a better & bigger top-loader than you do a front-loader.
We bought the middle of the road LG (WM2016CW) from Best Buy (can't beat the 18 mos same as cash) back in May and I love them! Around $1200 for both. My cheapo Maytag washer quit spinning after only 5 yrs - will never buy Maytag again.
One thing to remember with front loaders: use very tiny amt of detergent as any leftover residue in the drum will cause mildew/mold to grow and smell terrible! I've also gotten in the habit of leaving the door to the washer open for a few hours to let it completely dry out. Result? No funky smell!
I've had the front loader Maytag Neptune series for several years. I love them. When we bought them, at least 5 yrs ago, we ought the top of the line, highest end models available.
I've never heard of having to wash it with bleach every time. I do, however, run a bleach wash about once a month but I did that with my top loader and do it with dishwasher as well..just for cleaniness.
My washer has no mold on the ring or anything like that. I've never had an issue with my Maytag Neptune series. I am sure there are better ones out there now...since mine are now over 5 yrs old.
The ONLY disadvantage I have noticed is....if you forget to put a piece in the wash...it has to wait til the next load because the door locks. That is not really an issue for me.
Good luck.
We bought an LG about two years ago. When we were looking I read as many reviews online as I could find and read Consumer Reports.
So far, I love it. We haven't had any problems. It uses less soap and water. It takes a bit longer to wash, but I get so much more done in one load that my laundry time is reduced. When it's not in use I leave the door open. I have a large family, so it's in use quite frequently.
I purchased a set about six months ago. I was in dire need so I ended up getting the floor models so I could have them that day. Mine are the Maytag Epic Z & I think out the door cost me $1600. They have been wonderful! Very easy to use and my laundry gets so clean. And I didn't have to spend $2000+! I recommend these to anyone looking for an affordable front load washer & dryer.
I got a front load washer about 6 months ago. After checking out on line reviews, I went with Samsung. I love them. I don't have a funky smell, but I do leave the washer door open when not in use. My set was around $3000, but I wanted the steam washer and dryer. The models without steam are less expensive. I got them at Lowe's with 12 months no interest. Sears also carries Samsung. I live in a townhouse with the laundry room upstairs next to my bedroom. I can start a load of laundry before I go to bed and I don't hear a thing.
RUN AWAY from LG's!!! ;-)
Mine will never stop stinking no matter what we do!
We got the Kennmore 4 years ago and have had NO problems. It was also very highly rated by Consumer Reports.
You do have to leave the front door of the washer open until it's dry (we just leave it cracked open all the time)...but that is the recommendation for all front loading washers. We have had no mold or mildew. Another bonus...the washer uses WAY less water than the top loaders do, so you are helping the environment too. We love the front loaders are are very happy we got them. Good luck!
I always look into consumer reports before making a large purchase. They rate all the washers and dryers.
You can get a month online subscription for around $5 or you can go to the library and see the ratings for free.
There was a news report about the front load washers that turned me off. The lady in the interview found she had to wash out underneath the casket with bleach each time she ran the washer and leave the door open to allow the machine to dry out. It builds up mold and is very unsanitary. The manual even says to run the machine with just bleach to try to correct the problem. The lady on the interview said this did not get rid of the mold. You might want to check into this before buying the front loader since there was the same problem with all of the front loaders not just one brand.
