I would take it back. Newborns have different dietary needs than older babies.
My brother went to the store for me and I told him to bring back a certain kind of formua for my newborn son but gerber has the same kind of formula but stage 2 (9-12 mos) would it hurt him if I give him this formula or should I just get him to take it back and get the right one???

Definitely bring it back. Your son is newborn? Yes, you need to get the infant formula meant for newborns. The one he got will hurt his little tummy. Good luck!
I would take back - it's two different kinds of formula and I think it has to do with the % of casin (milk product) and could give your baby a stomachache.
I had a baby 9 months ago and I asked this question to her Dr. because I accidentally got her gerber "crawler" formula and told him I would just save it...he said not to worry so much that I could use it as a "back-up" because it wouldn't hurt her since it was the same "gentle" formula. I didn't use it though until she started to crawl (thank god those things don't expire for like a year! because it was a BIG can of formula!) so I can't really say if it wasn't good for her since I didn't use it until she crawled but I thought I would let you know what a pediatrician told me. I hope this helps!
definitely take it back and get the right kind
