No, I never felt compelled to do that.
Did you get your therapist a gift at your final session?
I've been with this therapist a really long time and she has helped me immensely. Our last session is coming up as she is retiring, so a small memento might do..
No, I never felt compelled to do that.
Well I actually told her to not loose my file and that I would at least do an annual health check with her just like a physical...so no final goodbyes........
No. Because I was homeless. It would have been odd.
But I sent him a card a few years later so he would know for sure he'd saved my life.
I had a therapist who walked me through my separation and divorce. She had written a book using a seashell analogy. So I gave her a pretty seashell from my collection toward the end of our time together. It wasn't a final session gift, just something that was meaningful to both of us.
Therapists can't accept gifts from clients. It would be an ethics violation.
Hi ES, I don't have a therapist, but I DID have a divorce lawyer. Lol. She was AWESOME, and after our ruling, I sent her and her para a thank you card.
:)
No, I didn't. And I just finished 2 years of counseling.
I'm not sure, ethically, therapists can accept gifts anyway. I did a two year degree in social and human services, and I seem to recall from our ethics class that therapists are forbidden from accepting gifts, I could be wrong though. A card is certainly appropriate.
No, it never even occurred to me to do that.
