Five months does seem a little premature to be worried about this. I would try not to worry too much about it and wait to see what the Dr says.
My five month old son is not really bearing weight on his legs. With all other milestones he is ahead of schedule. He can sit straight unaided and play with his toys for up to twenty minutes, roll both ways, he can army crawl using my hands to help him push, but can't stand with his legs straight. He bends his knees, and stands on his toes. Even lying down, when I straighten his legs and try to put his foot at the proper angle his foot seems really stiff and it almost seems as if it hurts him. He can bounce while standing with support. I read that babies should learn to lock their knees first before learning to bounce. My husband and others think I'm just being a worry wart. The health nurse thinks He may have a shortened archilles tendon. I have a docs app but it's not until next week. I've been worrying about this for awhile, but haven't been able to get in any sooner with his doc. So am I just being a worrywart?
Edit: heh maybe I worded it wrong. I don't actually make him try to stand on his own. I hold him by his chest. I'm just worried because he doesn't seem to be able to straighten his legs. I'm from Canada, the people that come to visit and answer questions are called health nurses here. I asked them a couple times, one health nurse thought I should bring it up to the doctor, the other health nurse thought maybe his archilles tendon may be too short. I can't get in to the doctor until next week. He hasn't even had his four month shots yet because they made me reschedule due to a cold.

Ask your pediatrician but I do not see this as a problem at all. I would not try to get him to stand or walk yet, he is really young.
He's five months old. Don't push him. Even quick children don't walk or pull themselves up to stand before 7 1/2 months of age. You could hurt him by pushing the issue.
He's normal he'll develop in his own time.
My stance on these questions are if you are concerned contact your state's early intervention to see if there is an issue you should be concerned about. They will come to your house or day care and do an evaluation to see if there are any concerns and if there are they will give you services to help you work with your child. So, if you think there is an issue that you would like to have checked out contact early intervention or give it some time.
