First Birthday Party Question

I was searching through the archives to get ideas on what to do for my son's 1st birthday party. I was able to find some info through the archives, but have additional questions.

I'm looking for the following information and hope that some of you could help me:

1. If I have the party at my home, I'm looking for entertainment suitable for kids from 1 year to about 5 years old. I thought about the stuff a bear workshop, do kids really like those? The downside to having a party at home is the setup and cleanup.

2. I'm also thinking about having the party at a location other than my home. I contacted the Little Gym, but I would like to get a parent's perspective. What type of things are done during the party (for entertainment)? Would the 5 year old have just a good of a time as an 18 month old?

3. Any party locations suitable for a party for a 1 year old boy. Preferably in the N. Garland/Plano/Richardson/N. Dallas area. I will be contacting My Gym (in Plano). Are there any other places beside My Gym and the Little Gym?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

What can I do next?

A friend had her son's birthday at Let's Jump www.lets-jump.com and it was GREAT! My daughter isn't even 2 yet and LOVED it so we are having her next bday there! It was great cause not only did all the kids like it but the adults were able to participate too and had just as much fun (if not more lol) you can get 45 min each in 2 seperate rooms plus time in the party room or the whole hour and a half in one room (that room is geared more torwards younger kids) plus the pary room. No clean up needed either. Plus kids under 2 and anyone over 18 are free! I could go on and on. I DEFINATLY recommend it! You can even add food to your package or bring your own!

We just had my 4 year old birthday party at the Little Gym this past weekend. It was wonderful! We have an 8 week old baby so I did not want to have it at the house this year. The Little Gym was great! You just show up and they run the whole party. We had 6 kids there most were close to age 4 and one was 1 1/2. They all had a really good time. They let the kids have open gym time there. Then they did the parachute, followed by games with the balls, a bouncy house type thing. Then we ate cake and then they went back into the gym for more play & finished with bubbles. It was great - but it might be much for a one year old. I would just ask them if they can do a party that would keep all of those kids happy with that age span. One idea - I did not want to spend the money for a party at the Little Gym if my son was not going to enjoy it so I went and took a free class at the gym to make sure he liked the place. You might check that out - you can do a complimentary class. We have joined the gym now and my son goes once a week for class- it is the highlight of his week!

We went to a Little Gym party for a 3 yr. old & my 1 yr. old tagged along. She had a blast. The teachers are great to keep the kids busy. You can always attend a first-free class to get the idea of what goes on.

Any inflatable place is great - especially if you get a party on a weekday! Weekends can be insane if other parties are going on.

My daughter attended a b-day party at The Little Gym for a friends 2nd birthday party. She had so much fun that I enrolled her in the next semester of classes at the gym!

There were kids from 18 months up and they all seemed to have a blast. There are varied activities for all the kids but it requires adult supervision so I would suggest having at least one parent of each guest stay with them at the party.

I highly recommend The Little Gym. There's not a lot of effort on your part, the kids have a lot of fun, and your house is intact when you get home! :) Good luck!

Hi J.,

I have 3 kids, ages 8, 3 and 4. I have found through experience to keep birthday parties simple. The kids really don't care what their cake looks like, what type of napkins you use or where they celebrate their b'day as long as it's with their friends and family. I have had parties at both my house and at other locations. I actually have had and been to birthday parties at Little Gym and My Gym. They both are fun, but I feel that the kids get to interact and play more with each other at The Little Gym's parties. My first born got to experience it all. Elaborate birthday parties, Gymboree Music, Art classes, etc. My younger two, bless their hearts, weren't as fortunate. I just didn't have the time to run everybody all over town and plan everything out. My third didn't have a birthday party until this year. And, you know what, he wasn't deprived at all. He's just more simplier and easy going than the rest, and takes what he gets with more appreciation. It's the simple things in life that kids enjoy most.
