Feeling So Discouraged with P90X and Weight Loss. Anyone Else Gone Through This

Hi mamas.

I am 41 years old, 5'3" and about 150 lbs. Without any real change in eating or exercise, over the last two years my weight has gone up about 10 lbs per year. Once it gets to that new set point, my body is extremely stubborn to drop any pounds. Well, you can imagine my alarm when it started creeping towards 155. There is NO WAY that I am going to allow myself to settle in anywhere near 160. It's not so much the weight - it's how I feel at that weight. I'm achy, tired, and easily injured (knees, neck).

The last straw was 2 weeks ago when I measured my fitness guru husband's waist - AND IT WAS SMALLER THAN MINE! Mind you, he is 6'2".

He has done P90X for a couple of years with amazing results (though he has always been in very good shape).

I decided to try it (mostly out of desperation) and am on Week 2, day 5. Yesterday I hit a wall. I felt like hell from the previous night's work-out, and the worst part is I still haven't seen my weight drop into the 149's range.

Would you guys stop doing it at this point, or try to stick out the 90 day program? The thing that scares me is that it wears me out so much. I can't afford to just lay around all day recovering.

Any thoughts? Encouragement? Should I just accept being fat and live with it? I feel like I could cry right now.

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your very kind answers.

I did measure my waist and I lost an inch (nothing to sneeze at). My pants feel much looser around the thighs too (why can't we lose belly fat first?).

Where I was really getting upset is just feeling so darn bad. I homeschool my kids, and due to severe dietary restrictions of one of my children I cook three meals a day. Therefore, I can't just collapse for a couple of hours somewhere to recover. All my husband has to do is sit in a chair all day staring at a computer and talk on the phone - not quite the same energy commitment.

I think, based on the responses, I'm going to try to stick with it, even if I have to go a bit slower during the work-outs (I always do them all, full-steam - I never quit halfway thru though I want to). This is quite a change from just walking, and I probably need to give my body time to adjust.

Will definitely keep you all posted. Thanks again! <3

Don't give up on P90X!!! You're only 2 weeks in, so don't expect huge results yet. Maybe you should join a group like Weight Watchers or SparkPeople.com where you can get support and talk to someone when you are feeling challenged. Can you just do P90X every other day for a while until you become stronger and more fit? There's nothing wrong with starting slow with exercise, you'll be much more likely to stick with it if you don't feel beat up everyday. Just keep at it with whatever exercise you can do, once you start seeing results it becomes a huge motivation to keep going!! :)

First and foremost - it is completely a MYTH that muscle weighs more than fat to the point that it will affect you on the scale. I have no idea where people get this idea. What is true is that muscle is DENSER than fat, so you look smaller than someone who weighs the same as you but has less muscle tone. But 10lbs is 10lbs, whether it is 10lbs of muscle or 10lbs of fat. See the article below for explanation.

A. - second of all - you are not fat! Stop being so hard on yourself!

Any time I start a new exercise program OTHER than running, I do not lose weight. I would definitely stick it out. You have to think of all the other benefits you are getting from the program OTHER than weight loss - heart health, muscle tone, etc...the list goes on. And chances are, you will start to see weight loss after you complete the program.

I am sometimes achy in my knees/other joints and I am 5'6" and 125lbs and wear a size 2! So, it may not be your weight so much as it is your joints and your being "out of shape" at this point. What really helps my joints is Glucosamine and Chondroiton - I use Andrew Lessman's brand. I absolutely love these supplements and they help me continue to be able to run and be active even though I have bad knees.

If you finish the program and still see no results, then try something else. Contact a personal trainer who can work with you and determine your body type and goals and the best way to achieve them. Or, continue to work out and be HEALTHY and focus less on your weight but more on feeling good and looking great. Try not to focus so much on body weight and start paying attention to body composition (how much body fat you have compared to muscle).

And stop comparing yourself to others - especially your hubby! Men's bodies are so different. Women have all sorts of other factors to make us gain weight in certain areas - hormones, genetics, etc. This doesn't mean you have to sit back and accept them, but recognize they exist and work to combat them/their effects.

Are you able to run? Even a slow jog will help with weight loss. Running is the best fat burning exercise....and boy will you feel fabulous after a good run!

Definately stick with it, it's a 90 day program for a reason, and no matter what, women are predetermined to have curves in areas men don't, so don't judge yourself by your hubby! Make sure you're sticking with the diet. I know P90X has online support that will help you with concerns like this, check in with them (the website should be in your book). If you're on any kind of medication, see if weight gain is a side effect; this could be preventing you from losing as well. Keep it up honey!! Be proud of yourself for doing what's best for your body!! (even though those workouts are brutal, the yoga part especially can kiss my butt!!) And 150 at 5 ft 3in is not fat, that's well within the healthy weight limits for that height :) LOVE YOUR CURVES! No man wants to be with an itty bitty woman with a 15 year old boys body. Curves are SEXY!!

Yes, it's a tough work out - if it's too tough for you - then do what you can.

Change your eating habits - less bad carbs - white rice, processed foods...look into Adkins Diet - it will show you how you can eat and lose weight - especially if you like bacon!!! :) Bottom line - NEVER GIVE UP!! NEVER SURRENDER!!

I just started the INSANITY workout that is a step up from P90X. It kicks my butt. I have to do it at night or I'm exhausted all day.
Stick with it. My husband says it takes the first 3 weeks and then you should see some results. But also remember you are gaining muscle and losing fat, so the scale isnt the only thing to measure. Make sure to measure your waist, stomach, hips, legs, etc, so you can compare again in 2 weeks the measurements and see if that shows you a difference besides the scale.

A., I've done 2 1/2 rounds of P90 X and I got amazing results! First of all, you need to look at your diet. Is it clean? Clean meaning, are you still eating the way you ate before you started the program? I am not suggesting you follow the diet plan for the program(although if you DO follow the plan, you will be doing yourself a huge favor because the fat loss will show faster) as I never followed the diet plan either but I stopped eating junk. All junk was gone from my diet! No, I am not suggesting depriving yourself of a cookie or a sip of soda here and there, but you have to avoid junk foods that deliver empty calories.

Also, you are only on week 2. You cannot expect great weight loss or dramatic results in just 2 weeks. Weight loss requires work....hard work! Maybe if you were starving yourself but I doubt you are doing that....and starvation and P90X do not go hand in hand. In addition, I read a very good article that the body holds onto a great deal of water when any new exercise program is introduced. It is likely you have water weight, in addition to extra weight (fat) that you have not lost yet. In about 30 days into the program, you should start to see the pounds come down. Much of it will be water weight.

I am subscribed to the P90X newsletters. Here is a link that may help keep you motivated. Also, if you are on facebook, they have a page for P90X. Don't give up. You just got started and although 90 days seems like a long way away, you have to give it a try. It's a lot of money to spend for a program and not use it and get out of it what it promises. You WILL get in the best shape of your life. You have to want it bad enough to make ALL the necessary lifestyle changes (diet) and you do have to dig deep. Prove to yourself what you are made of. I firmly believe in this program. I have friends who are doing it and have benefited in a beautiful way.

I might also suggest you change your program up. Are you doing the classic or the lean routine? Since you want to maximize fat loss, I would do the lean routine first. Adding more cardio will help you burn fat faster. I began the program with the lean routine and then I did 1 1/2 rounds of the classic. I was unable to finish my 3rd round because I got pregnant. I am due in about 9 weeks but the moment I get the thumbs up from my doctor, I am going to jump start my weight loss by beginning the Insanity program.

So you started 2 weeks ago at close to 155 and you haven't dropped below 150? I think that's a lot to ask for weight loss in 2 weeks. P90X is tough. My husband does it too and had fabulous results. It's hard to do if you're kind of out of shape. Not impossible, but hard. I've done some of the videos too, but not religiously. I think with this program it's normal to feel worn out when you starts. But then your stamina gets better.

If it's too hard, you might try doing something a little easier. Like just the regular P90. It's boring. But it's easier. I saw results at the end of 90 days, but not like you'd see with P90X. I would maybe try that for a while and as your stamina improves, switch to P90X. You might want to assess your eating too. Most people easily eat more calories than they should.

No, you shouldn't accept being fat. You can do it! You just might need a stepping stone to help you get to P90X. Hang in there! =)

p90X is a beating. If you went from sedentary to P90X it is going to be tough! But you can do it! Your body is going through some extreme changes and it may take a full month to see significant weight loss, but stick with it! FYI: Healthy, sustainable weight loss is about 1 - 2 lbs a week!! If you are doing strength training - like P90X you will see some weight shift from fat to muscle and yes it is true - it weighs more:)
Be sure to take in extra water during the day and stay up on a good multi vitamin, because if you are cutting calories, you can sometimes loose intake of some nutrients that we women need.
ALso, I would encourage you to check out "my Fitness pal" it is a free ap and online site that sets your calorie intake to loose the one to two pounds a week and it is sooo easy (if it weren't I wouldn't use it - LOL).

My sister destroyed both her knees doing this regimen-she has had surgery on the best of the bad knees and may do a total replacement on the second knee. That said-, at times, people actually gain weght in the beginning of a workout routine. Don't be discouraged-grab the South Beach diet-and a pilates DVD-and take a walk everyday-and stop beating yourself up. Stand when you can and do leg raises and squats while your doing other stuff. Eat less of what you want-and be mindful of calories and bad carbs. Good luck!

You totally need to start with diet. Almost all weight loss is about diet-not exercise. And I have to say from personal experience that heavy lifting can make you heavier. I was on a kick a couple years ago with the New Rules of Lifting For Women that almost all diet/ercise boards rave about. Well-it cause me to go up a pant size. Thanks but no thanks. It might be a good idea to consult a good trainer to get a game plan based on your personal stats and goals.

Also-Instead of P90-why don't you start out with something like 30 Day Shred. Once you get your mojo-THEN maybe look at P90 or other more hardcore programs.

I have heard great things about it. Or another variation of it.. around here what people are doing is Cross-Fit. It is similar from what I understand. Not sure about the P90X, but with Cross-Fit the workouts are catered to YOUR ability (or lack of) so that you can manage it. Any age or fitness level can do it, and over time, you are able to do more and more because you become more and more fit. They give you a WOT (Workout of the Day) and if you are not able to do X exercise (or not the full set) there is an alternative option that is easier (but usually more reps). If THAT one is too hard, there is an even easier option. So you challenge yourself, but not so much as to injure yourself. As your fitness increases, your workout will change b/c you won't be doing the easiest options every time anymore.. and they change the workout daily (hence the Workout OF THE DAY, lol).

My pastor and his wife started doing this last fall. She has had 5 children, and was getting annoyed with not getting back in shape after the last one. So when baby was about 10 months old, she started doing cross fit (her husband had already been doing it and loved it - he's a rugby player for fun). There was soreness in the beginning, of course, but you don't work out EVERY day. She looks fabulous again! But, she was always generally fit... she taught a Pilates class for a long time, but had sort of let things go after the birth of the last baby. In December, they added in the Paleo diet, and both of them lost about 15 lbs. from December to February.

Maybe you could do some research into Cross-Fit and see if it is close enough to the P90X that you could swap into it?

try a weight loss program with the exercise such as Weight Watchers. There are people there who have been in the same boat as you. Give em a try. I think they are till having FREE registration. check out a meeting and see if it's something for you. In the meetings, there is group support and a lot of good info with regard to basic eating habits. Also, I do recommend keeping a journal of what you are consuming each day... 2 weeks is NOT long...give your body time to adjust. Additionally, you might just be working out too hard.. yes too hard............ if you work in my opinion to a point of total stress EVERY DAY.. then I do believe it could cause cortisol levels to raise and that will keep the fat on... I also believe that when women hit their 40s, fitness routines that work for those in their 20s and 30s may not work for us due to fluctuation hormones. I am not using that as excuse, but rather to say, we are all individual.. so hang in there. Also, do check out a WW meetings.. you can go online and see what is near you.. I think it might be the jumpstart you need to keep your spirits up... if you go and hear other people talk about their trials and tribulations, it could help..

Honestly, if you were totally out of shape P90X might be a bit much to start with (those work outs are hard core!). I really think those work outs are designed for in shape people who really just want to kick it up a notch and see results. If you are starting from the most out of shape you have ever been, I can see where P90X might be overkill. That being said, you made it through two weeks! The work outs should start to feel more doable. I vote stick with it. But listen to your body. If you are totally wiped then lighten up a bit on the work out. Do modifications, or fewer reps, give yourself a few extra rests while you are working up to a better level of fitness. I don't think your body is going to respond with great weight loss if its over stressed. As you build up to the work out, I bet you will see results. I say commit to another two weeks and see what happens. And Koodos. You are brave. Those work outs scare the hell out of me.

I thought it was targeted more towards men and if you work out like a man you are not going to get results ... you are a woman. Women have different fitness needs especially as our age changes. You may want to see if you can rent a Zumba Dvd and join weight watchers online or some combo effect. I really think women need to work out differently, cardio is huge and toning is second we overall do not need to build muscle mass unlike men.

I'd like to recommend a free website with AMAZING workouts. It's www.bodyrock.tv. Word of warning... the girl doing the workouts is super-sexy and at first I found it as a bit of a turn-off. But her form is perfect and the workouts are intense. Best of all, they are all between 12-30 minutes. It's super-easy to fit them into my hectic schedule. She also gives modifications for beginners so you can ease into it as well.

The problem is, if you aren't enjoying P90X, you won't stick with it. That's why I prefer the shorter, more intense workouts. Studies show that 4 minutes of HIIT (high intensity interval training) can be more effective than 40 minutes of low to moderate intensity cardio.

Anyway, don't judge the site by what you first see. The content is killer and there are TONS of workouts to choose from - plus diet tips and recipes.

I've been really committed to my workouts for the last 2 months (it's easy to do when they are so short and fun!) and I'm seeing huge changes. I don't own a scale so I don't know or care if I've lost weight. But I can see crazy definition in my abs. Like you, my weight has steadily crept up since I hit 30 and I'm not going to take it anymore.

I recommend that you give it a try. And if that doesn't work for you, try something else until you find the thing you enjoy. Otherwise any results you see will be temporary anyway.

I dont know much about the p90 program but if its as hard as everyone says then I would suggest starting with a lighter workout and build up to this one. (Assuming you were not exercising prior to this) I bought the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred at Wal Mart for 9 dollars. It has 3 workout levels so you can start out a little easier and build up to each level. It is only 20 minutes per day. You can make it as hard or as easy as you want. I can feel it the next day but not to the point that I am beat down.

I have been doing it about 3 weeks and so far have lost about 9 to 10 pounds. I also have really changed what I eat. I cannot "diet" so instead I dropped most of my snacking and I use salad plates at dinner so that I will eat smaller portions. I have cut out the junk and lots and lots of water too! Im really just trying to change the way I eat overall instead of restricting myself to certain foods. I know that I cant stick to that kind of diet.

Whatever exercise program you choose- stick with it, you will see results. And as PP said, stop comparing yourself to your husband. Our bodies are just not the same! Good luck you are doing great!!

Good for you, you should be so proud of yourself starting this program, stick with it, you've got support in your husband!
As far as gaining weight, your metabolism slowed down a bit. But.... you need to change what you eat. Someone suggested getting off sugars, great idea! I gained 65 or more pounds while pregnant and I lost it all and then some within about 3 months or less by NOT eating: dairy, processed foods, sugar, flour products and animal products. Hmmmm what DID I eat????
I ate ( and still eat) many whole grains (organic is better), beans, legumes, variety of veggies, nuts, seeds and some fruit but light fruits. I drink pure water daily too.
I am 5'6" and 120 pounds and very happy with my weight. You won't feel heavy or weighed down by eating this way, you'll feel energized and healthy.
Fad diets don't work, change your way of life and you'll lose weight. Eat right for your blood type is nonsense, your blood type can change!!!

Ahhh, my husband is in the same place you are right now.
And his approach - which will fail - is to do the workouts about 1/2 way through. He's also NOT following the diet (or making any changes at all to his eating). So in the end, he's going to say that he tried it and it didn't work.
What a surprise.

P90 is TOUGH. And with anything, you have to do the work to get the results, even when you feel like hell. You're 2 weeks in, so it COMPLETELY makes sense that you've gained weight. That will happen with any workout you start from nowhere. You're building muscle, which weighs more than fat. And until you start to drop the fat on top of the muscle (which will start to happen in a week or two, if you stay with it), you'll weigh more. It's your body's natural response.
Stick with it if you can (don't injure yourself, of course, but push through the soreness). You will absolutely see results if you hang in there. You just have to give your body time to do what it does. Drink a lot of water, get your sleep and take hot baths.
I promise, in another 2 weeks, you'll feel TOTALLY different!

Don't give up - you have to get things moving in the right direction (which you have) and then everything else starts to fall into place. It's a sequence of good decisions over time (exercising more, drinking water, eating with a conscience - meaning not deprivation but also not stuffing yourself full of food all day just because you're doing intense workouts) that will produce dramatic results.

I'm on my 3rd round of p90x and I've never been in better shape in my life, even before kids. For some reason I let myself get pretty huge after baby #2...I'm also 5'3" so extra weight on me is really obvious. I started with Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred...and I did it twice. So after 60 days of that I was ready for p90x. You might just need to work up to p90x if your body isn't ready. So consider doing at least 30 days of a less intense workout, then start over with p90x. That's what I would do. Also Tony (p90x trainer) often gives modifications during the workouts, and you can do less reps for awhile until you work up to being able to follow along exactly. And my advice is DO the xstretch, don't rest, on the xstretch/rest day. That hour of stretching weekly will really help heal your aching muscles. Remember that in order to achieve dramatic change in your body you have to shock your muscles...not injure them by any means but make them work hard.

Also you mentioned cooking 3 meals a day and being home all day...take a hard look at what you're consuming food-wise daily. Are you sampling every meal that you cook? And eating your own 3 meals a day? It might simply be too much intake...do the special K challenge or something similar for a couple of weeks just to become aware of how much you're actually eating in a day. That way if you restrict yourself a little for just a temporary time to only eating say the special K bars or shakes during the day and then eat a regular dinner, you'll notice if you start to go snack on something and catch it...understand it.

You'll be fine - it's harder to lose weight as we age...stick with it. You definitely won't achieve any results by quitting - and no you don't have to accept being overweight!

I don't know anything about the P90X program, but I do sell another weight loss program and I know sometimes people hit that wall or plateau.

If you like your plan, it is nutritious and you are exercising, then you can hang on a bit. Do you feel good? See if you lose inches and your clothes continue to fit better. For a woman losing 1-2 pounds per week is healthy and reasonable.

If you are hungry and miserable and not losing, then that's another story! No need to suffer.

My husband does P90X and has great results. I couldn't keep up with it but if you can you should. I walk or run and try to watch what I eat. On occasions I'll do come of his workout. Only 2 weeks have gone by, your body needs more time. Don't think about numbers but about how you feel and soon the clothes will start to fit better. You may loose water weight or fat but gain in muscle tone which adds weight or keeps weight at a certain number. Try vitamin supplements to help with recovery, B complex and others are great. Don't get discouraged, this is the point when you push your way through it. Try it for another week and just go week by week.

Zumba is also fun and effective. Good luck.

You can stick with it and take it a little slower or easier (do 30 mins instead of the full hour) but if your not enjoying it you simply wont stick with it-I love working out running and weights and after baby # 2 I could not drop those pesky last 10 but there is a great/interesting new book called "4 hour Body" its not a diet book its a mix of different things but there are a couple chapters on his slow carb diet (you dont have to do alot of exercises either) but the diet is usually the biggest part of weight loss-its not fun but I kid you not I lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks (may not sound like a lot but now Im back in pre pregnancy jeans and the weight has stayed off) like I said I did the diet faithfully for 2 weeks (4 weeks I couldnt do :( but I was happy with the result! It did jump start what I needed and like I said its not fun and boring but it really did work! Good Luck!

I would stick with it. The fatigue you feel may be the fuel in not providing the right nutrients. Be sure you are getting enough protein...I love my 30 day Feeling Fit Kit. Protein shakes, fiber booster, Energy fizz tabs, detox tea, appetite suppresant chews and a 30 fit planner. All products botanically based, vegan certified, and contain to chemical sweeteners. Amazing program, I have lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks without working out...that is coming next week...let's hope for that.

You need something that is correct for you. What works for someone else- who has a different body from you- of course-may not be your solution.
I have seen good results from Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type. Check it out.

Have you had your thyroid level checked? If not, you might ask your doctor to do a full work up, especially TSH and Free T4. Make sure the doctor is aware that you can be symptomatic with a technically normal TSH.

My belief? You need a program you can stick with over the long haul. You're not committing to 90 days...you're committing to a lifetime of good health. If you're not prepared to make that commitment, you will never keep the weight off and yourself in good health. If 90X can help you "jump start" a program, great. You are an individual...you are not your trainer...you are not your skinny neighbor...you are you. You need to be honest with yourself that you need to make a real life change, but one that is custom-designed for you. There are millions who have gone on atkins and been successful, but millions more who found no success. Why? Because we are each individuals with individual life situations and individual body make-ups and individuals tastes in food and individual emotional situations...etc. Find a health counselor who can work with YOU as an individual and help you create a program that will "Make a Difference for Life!" Oh, and so you know...what I know about the health counseling that I've done...the more dieting you've done historically, the more likely your body will be to resist the weight loss until it recognizes that you truly have committed to a real change and not a temporary starvation. DEFINITELY stick with it.. It's a grueling workout, but well worth it.. Remember your also putting on muscle right now and muscle weighs more than fat.. I did the p90x to tone up, not loose weight and only lost 4-5 lbs for the whole 12 weeks but my BODY changed and got a lot more toned. Not bulky toned though>

I am 5'0", and a few days away from my 40th birthday. I was skinny my whole life, then at 34 had my first child and the second one right after - the back-to-back pregnancies left me about 12 pounds overweight. Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer and the chemo drugs, coupled with a thyroid problem triggered by radiation therapy landed another 30 pounds on me. I struggled for a while as being overweight was something I never had experienced before. With everything I had been through and being a SAHM of two little ones, I was too exhausted to work out. Okay, that's my background.

Several friends of mine told me that I should try Weight Watchers and I said no way - I'm not the type of person to write down everything I eat or weigh all my food, no way! Well, in September (2010) I gave in and decided to check out a local WW meeting. To this day I have not missed a weekly meeting and I've lost 27 pounds. I have around another 10 to go and I am thrilled! Yes, I write down everything I eat and count points and I even weigh my food when necessary but I don't mind because it keeps me in control. The best part is that I can eat whatever I want. Seriously! Lat night I had two brownies! I was able to because I saved enough points for it. Of course, I mostly eat as healthy a diet as possible, but I allow myself treats all the time and there hasn't been a week yet that I haven't lost weight. For me the biggest thing has been portion control.

I think when we start getting up there in age, our diet plays a much bigger part in not only our health, but our weight and our ability to lose weight - more so than excercise. I know lots of women who are overweight and work out like crazy and they look no different. I rarely excercise (I do intent to start excercising more when I get down to my goal weight to help maintain and to tone up) and I lose about a pound a week, sometimes a little more. It doesn't sound like much, but it adds up and it shows.

I put on three pair of pants that I used to wear when I was working, about 6 or 7 years ago, yesterday and they fit - I was so excited! I feel better about myself and I'm happier - for me and my whole family. Wow, I didn't mean to write so much, but it's a topic close to my heart and I am still amazed that I'm actually doing WW and loving it! Best wishes to you!

P90X (which i haven't tried, but my older son is doing) is not going to create weight loss on its own. you've got to develop great eating habits along with it. but P90X will kick your butt and make you stronger, which will help boost your metabolism and give you more energy.
if you're not a habitual exerciser, it may just be too tough a program for you right now. i've been working out almost daily for 6 months right now, and while still too heavy am in the best shape of my life, and still can't do the P90X (although i plan on it.) start with a tough but shorter workout and work up to the P90X. make sure you're eating plenty of protein and greens.
your workouts should leave you tired but not completely enervated. after the first week you should start to see a rise in your energy levels, but even before that you want to go for a 'good' tired, not prostrate exhaustion.
you do NOT have to accept being fat! i'm sorry you've hit this frustrating wall, but keep going. tweak your direction but don't quit. even the modest weight loss (but significant muscle gain) i've accomplished so far has made a big difference in my poor abused knees and my sluggish energy. hang in there, girl!

You don't mention how old your baby is. If under a year then your body will hold onto weight in case your baby needs it from you in the form of milk/fat etc. If older then one, then I would switch to whole organic foods only. When we did that, my bf lost 30 pounds and I lost 9 without doing ANYTHING else! We do not buy a thing with high fructose corn syrup, preservatives or sprayed with pesticides. All that makes weight stay on. Do not drink anything but R.O. water. By bf started P90X Feb 1st and has done it everyday this month and lost 11-12 pounds so far. You will get there. Go slowly with the P90. The turtle will still cross the finish line!

I say stick with it and push through as much as you can. I see no way you could "hit a wall" in less than three weeks! It is probably just your body adjusting. And remember: MUSCLE WEIGHS MORE than fat. Meaning you could be getting smaller, but still weigh the same. Make sense? Stop looking at the scale and start noticing how you FEEL and how your clothes fit.

Firstly, congrats on doing something about it! :o)
Keep up with it. It is difficult sometimes, but worth the perseverance.

Remember, that muscle weighs more than fat, so do not base how you are doing on what the scale says. Rather take body measurements.

What you have to remember is that what may work for one person may not work for you! When I wanted to lose the extra forty pounds that I gained from being pregnant ( almost six years and three children later ) I found it difficult. That was until I completely changed my diet and figured out what exercise worked for my body type! That is what you need to do!

I never could get more than 1.5 months with P90X. I was so frustrated at the time (and pain) spent doing it and seeing absolutely NO CHANGE at all. I didn't look different, and I didn't weigh any different. I'm not saying I wasn't stronger because I was. I may have been able to see a difference in my biceps (a little anyway), but it wasn't worth the time spent. My advice -- boot camp or run.
