Feeding My 7 Month Old

I have a 7 month old son who has been doing well on solid foods for over a month. He eats all types of baby cereal (rice, oat, barley, mixed grains etc) and almost all types of fruits and veggies. He eats 3 meals a day and nurses 3 times per day. He has 6 teeth.

He is ready to move on to protein and finger foods and other foods.....there is so much conflicting info out there!!!

What is the next step? What did you feed your baby after they "mastered" the introduction to solids?
THANKS!!

What can I do next?

Breastmilk should be the main source of all nutrition... not foods of any kind. The foods you offer babies are like empty calories - not much if any nutrition in them.

He should be nursing much more than only 3 times a day. You should start offering the breast before any meal and make sure he gets a good amount of nursing time in before you give any foods.

I agree with Pamela,Raven&Son. I would hold off on introducing anything else right now. 7 months is not that old. AND 3 times a day is not very much for nursing either.......

I suggest that you cut down the baby food by 1/2 and offer the breast more often. Your son will nurse more if he isn't full of baby food.

Good luck!

We fed him whatever we were eating - in an appropriate physical form (chopped, pureed, small pieces). He can eat cereal, eggs, fruit, veggies, fish (not high mercury), meat and poultry (if you eat it), pasta, beans, all grains, etc. He should not have honey until a year (risk of botulism) and peanut butter (unless diluted in a sauce to a non- sticky texture) because of the choking risk (also raisins are a choking issue). Most of his calories should come from breast milk until a year of age.

There is no reason at all to feed him 'toddler foods' - most of them are loaded with fat and salt and highly processed as well.

My daughter is 7 mos old with no teeth yet. She loves biter biscuits, puffs, cheerios, and wagon wheels. I also cut up banana and other fruits into pea sized bites if I have them. She is getting to a point where she prefers feeding herself, which is hard because I still have to spoon feed her baby food. It's like aiming for a moving target! We tried chicken baby food a few weeks ago, but she got a little constipated, so we are doing to try again this week and see if she can better tolerate it. Try a jar of baby food with chicken and see how it goes. And you can't go wrong with cheerios either. Good luck!

My daugher is 6 months and she hates baby food--she just eats whatever we're eating. I was shocked one day last week when I turned my back for a second to go to the bathroom and my 2 year old handed her his PB&J sandwhich, she gobbled it down in seconds. She eats an oatmeal/smoothie combo for breakfast (Trader Joe's oatmeal complete and my fruit smoothie that i have for myself), little bites of whatever we're having for lunch (today I made my toddler grilled cheese and veggie soup) and we're having teriyaki chicken for dinner and I will feed her some baby yogurt while she chews on her food. Just feed him whatever you're eating and I'm sure he will LOVE it!

best of luck!
