I have a 40 week old incredibly happy little man and he drinks about 22-25 ounces of formula a day (4 times a day) last one at bedtime at 7:15 pm. Would like to get advice on what solids would be right for him for all his meal times. Right now he has 4 ounces of yogurt in the morning, 4 ounces of vegey or fruit (in a jar, Earthsbest) for lunch and for dinner 7 tablespoons of oatmeal).

you can try pasta, bananas, cheerios, soft cheese, oatmeal or applesauce. My children both liked most of those foods. Good luck!

Are his height and weight where they should be? Does he seem happy? You can definetly increase the amount of food and I would space out the oatmeal rather than give him all of it at dinner. You can give him another jar of fruit/ veggie and maybe try a little meat. At this age my son started to not like me to feed him as much and wanted to feed himself. He really loves fruit that has been cooked slightly like in a compote that he can pick up and eat himself. Peaches and pears work really well. Even if your son is happy to have you feed him, he should start practicing self feeding. The formula and yogurt are right on target in term of amount.

Seems like at 10 months he should be eating much more
than he is. My kids happen to be big eaters so maybe
my view is not quite like everyone elses. He might be
drinking too much formula at this point. Think he
would eat much more if he was not drinking so much.
Check with your doc.

Hi Susan,

My son is 9.5 months old and he already eat pretty much everything. My pediatrician said based on his age and weight (18 lbs) he should be eating around 800-850 calories a day. Half of those calories are from formula (about 20 - 24 oz) and the other half from food. Food allergies are not common in my family so I have already given him whole eggs, beans and fish (I introduced each very slowly starting at 8 months). He hasn't reacted to anything. I try to get protein in at least 2 meals (i.e., one scrambled egg at breakfast and chicken for dinner or fish for lunch and beans for dinner). I give him veggies and/or grains for lunch and dinner mixed with the protein. He at least 2 fruits throughout the day plus a yogurt as a snack. In total I would say he eats about 1/2 cp of food at each mealtime plus 2 small snacks in between. He drinks the bulk of his formula first thing in the morning (6-7 oz) and at bedtime (7-8 oz). The rest I give to him 4 oz at a time after his meals. Even if you don't make his food, take a look at some of the baby food cookbooks in a store and they'll give you an idea of portion sizes at this stage. Hope this helps.
