Hey moms.
I have a friend who is a personal chef and I am asking a simple survey question on her behalf. If your own personal chef made you and your husband a special Valentine's or anytime romantic dinner, what would you have him/her prepare? (Include dessert if you'd like.)
Your responses are great and inspiring, ladies! Keep 'em coming and I'll flow them to my friend! :)

Because I'm partial to my own cooking:
Red peppers and carrots and kalamata olives, sauteed with a bit of red wine and herbs (think basil and thyme) , served over polenta with a nice piece of wild-caught sockeye salmon. Serve with a good zinfandel.
Dessert: one really great piece of chocolate. (I'm not much for sweets, myself.) And maybe a glass of tawny port?
Okay, now I'm hungry.
Seafood-lobster, crab, scallops, shrimp, with a good rare filet mignon.
Creme Brulee for dessert.
LOBSTER TAIL!!!!! :) Twice baked potatoes, asparagus (somehow it's so much better from a restaurant). Creme brulee however you spell that for dessert. With berries on top.
Now I'm hungry.
I made one of ours last night...
roast of tenderloin with demi glace sauce, roasted potato medley with garlic and onion, roasted tomato slices with Italian cheeses and basil. Of course ... Merlot
Another favorite is Prime Rib
Love crablegs and lobster but I wouldn't make it
We don't do desserts, just not a sweet tooth family.
Ooh, dinner made for us? Ahh, I would love:
-steak Diane (that's w/onions & sauce, right?)
-twice baked potatoes
-some kind of veggie
-warm bread rolls & butter
-a signature cocktail (sweet) pre dinner then bottle of good red wine
-some exotic chocolate dessert
I am a carbo lover. Sooo on the day of love I would want to indulge in the food I love.
Pasta dish with gynormous jumbo shrimp
Salad
al dente squash,zucchini and carrots
LOTS OF BREAD AND BUTTER...or BREAD AND OIL/BALSAMIC VIN.
(did you get that chef?? keep the bread coming!!)
and a slab...I mean a slab of thick, dense but very moist chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.and bring me a tall glass of milk to wash it down with ;)
Anything seafood - I like the lobster tail idea.
Seared ahi tuna with a really nice black pepper and sesame seed crust.
Seaweed Salad
Edamame beans
Oh- and the port sounds lovely as well.
OR - the port and a fabulous bread and cheese plate with gerkins!
some sort of surf & turf w ith potatoes & veggies.. as far as dessert, its gotta besomething chocolate
Lobster tails and crab legs with baked potatoes and a nice veggie (broccoli or aspargus) a salad, with lemon wedges and melted butter on the side. Dessert, a death by chocolate cake with ice cream. With a nice white wine and coffee.
A nice steak dinner, I like mine rare. With a good red wine.
Seafood definitely. Crab legs, clam chowder, stuffed flounder. Any or all of those. Maybe even a surf-n-turf. Throw a steak on the plate for good measure. :)
Dessert? Fudge. Some with nuts and some without.
A classic, italian salad, italian garlic bread, home made spaghetti, and a tall glass if sweet wine, and home made pepermint pattie (disguise the garlic taste and smell).. now im hungry
A Thai type meal with fresh shrimp, curry, fresh spring rolls (not the fried kind), etc. YUM!
Med/Medium Rare filet mignon with a side of bacon wrapped scallops. Mashed or twice baked potatoes. Veggies sauteed with butter and garlic. Really soft delicious bread and butter. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate for dessert....maybe some homemade chocolates, a chocolate pie/cake/etc.
It would be something seafood or great beef prepared in a way I wouldn't even think of with ingredients that I might not normally use. I'm a good cook and if someone else is making me something (as in I'm paying for it...) it needs to be above and beyond what I would make in my own kitchen. I'd want some fancy sauces/seasonings/garnishes etc.
I make crab legs at home - they are super easy, you just boil them!LOL! we also do bacon wrapped scallops that are fantastic! Sorry my answer isn't very specific!
I would start with Pan Seared Diver Scallops in Beurre Blanc, Creamed Spinach and a drizzle of Creme of Balsamic. Then I would have a small Arugula Salad. For the entree, I would have a Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon with a Pinot Noir Reduction Sauce on a bed of Whipped Potatoes and a side Asparagus/Grilled Brussel Sprouts.
Reading everybody's answers made my mouth water! Dang! Something that I just don't know how to cook, and a couple times a year I'll go special order it from a chef I know: a good beef wellington. With grilled asparagus, and I don't care what other side (I usually have a small serving of roasted potatoes that we add a little of the sauce for the wellington to). My other favorite food, I do make myself: smothered filet mignon, topped with gorgonzola (recipe from allrecipes.com), garlic mashed red potatoes, and steamed green beans. A good salad ( with lots of yummy fresh veg, not too much of the other "stuff" like croutons, cheese, meats) wouldn't hurt, and would help me keep the potato serving small. :)
Things I really love that I don't or won't make just for us? Lobster tail, boiled crawfish, the seafood thing. I can do a lot, but certain things, I either haven't learned or I opt for something easier if I'm doing it myself. (I'll cook some great crawfish etouffe, bisque, potpie, or fettucini, but I don't bother boiling it just for us, but it sure is a treat if someone does it for me).
Desserts: I'm a woman, so I love chocolate or coffee flavored things like tiramisu. My husband doesn't like either, at all, but BOTH of us are very very happy with a cheesecake or tart with fresh fruit.
I could eat pretty much any of the meals suggested...
My ideal meal would be medium rare prime rib, king crab (pre-cracked so I don't have to do a lot of work), grilled or roasted asparagus, popovers, rice pilaf or a cheesy hashbrowns... and for dessert molten chocolate cake (warm) with fresh whipped cream and a bit of vanilla ice cream.
And some really good wine.
