the past 2 months have been a great struggle for us mainly because my husbands medical condition without medication has limited him in working as much as we need him to. He is diabetic and is now going to get meds after 2 months because i just started working at Moffitt Cancer Center so we are starting our medical benefits. We are one month's rent behind and have already received an eviction notice because we have not paid Nov's rent yet! I have tried family support services and churches. There is one church im meeting with tomorrow to see if they can help. We are definitely on a time crunch because we are also in danger of our electric being shut off!!!....please help with any resources you may know about. thanks

I would also check into the Tampabay Workforce Alliance office on Busch and Florida. You may be given different location information depending on which county you live in. They help people with unemployment, retraining, food stamps and a bunch of other things. Maybe they have some resources for this scenario or can connect you to someone who does. Their number is ###-###-####

I know a family who was in a similar predicament, I think she said that Dept of Children and Families will sometimes grant a one time hardship payment of the rent or something like that. So maybe call the state and ask them about them paying the rent. As for the elecric the only thing that I know is the public school that my kids and her son go to have a program to help kids/families in need.

Good luck and I will be praying for you.

Hi-
I know only a little about your situation, so please consult someone with a bit more knowledge & don't take my words to be the law, but I have several friends in real estate &they say it is nearly impossible to evict people with kids. I have heard them say that they served notices to families before & the judge will rule in the families' favor, since there are kids involved. If you can pay the rent money, they don't really have a leg to stand on, from what I've been told, so get that money in to them asap. You may also want to consult with legal services or someone at a homelsss shelter, they may be able to advise you how to handle this legally.

Also, you should ask your husband's doctor about programs to help him get the necessary meds. There are many drug companies who will provide the meds free of charge if you qualify, so don't let him go without them, if possible! Diabetes can be so debilitating if untreated.

Thirdly, I don't believe the power compay can shut off your lights either, if there are kids there. Again, perhaps the legal services or a homeless shelter can help you get an understanding of your rights.

Good luck getting back on your feet...I know it can be difficult, but reaching out for help is a great frist step.

Please contact your neighborhood service center. There are four in Hillsborough county, depending on the area you live in. They will help with electricty and one month's rent for the year. You can find your local office at www.hillsboroughcounty.org, or by googling Neighborhood service center, tampa. You can also call ###-###-####.

I have never used any of the services but I know that you can get state Medicaid/Medicare or something like that .. for children there is Kidcare I think .. the brochures had come from school ..
Did you call the electric company and talk to a supervisor .. they would be able to tell you .. as you can't be the first person who are facing it.
I hope things get better soon for you ..
