Eye Moisturizer

I have oily skin all over my face, except for my eyelids, which are dry. I rarely use makeup. I use zkin care products for oily skin to, but cannot apply them to the eye lid area, or it will get more dry. If I use products for dry skin on my eye lids and it gets anywhere else on my face, I break out. I cannot use any products designed for anti aging near my eye area, or my eyes burn and itch. Can anyone suggest a product for me?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I have tried coconut and olive oil, but it always gets in my eyes, or makes me break out on the sides of my nose and in the oiler areas just beyond the eyes. I needed something quick and was out to Target yesterday, and looked at what they had. Most of the eye moisturizers were WAY beyond my budget or I couldn't find the ones suggested. I found something called Boots Sensitive Soothing Eye Gel. I could afford that, so bought it and will try that. If it doesn't work, I will try something else suggested.

The eye lids are very sensitive so you have to be careful with any cream. The only one that I know of being ok to use on the eye lids is the oil of olay one. You can find it at target or any pharmacy that carries it.
If you need any skin care advice I recommend this site http://www.skintypesolutions.com/forum/ There is a book also that helps you finding the skin type.(there are 16 types) I use it and it's great.

Hello L.,

There are a couple of products out there that might help. While I don't have the same dry/oily combination skin that you do, my skin is sensitive. Check into Clinique's All About Eyes. The other thought I had was to look at Cetaphil products (can be purchased in CVS or other drug stores). I use Cetaphil moisturizer on my face. It has an SPF of 15 and is for sensitive skin. I don't know if they have a specific product for eyes, or if you want to see about using it on your eyelids.

Whatever you use, be extremely gentle in applying. The skin around your eyes is very delicate. I've been advised to use the ring finger when applying anything around the eyes -- it tends to be the most gentle.

Hope you find something that works.

I haven't read all of the replies, so this may be repeater stuff . . . I highly recommend coconut oil (don't let the price fool you, a teensy goes a lonnnnng way). Its healed our son's cradle cap, ecsema and baby acne within a few applications. Its all I use for cuts, acne and hang nails. We all us it for sunscreen.

Personally, I have to avoid anything with petrolatum, petroleum and 'mineral' oils. I put mineral in quotes, because the name makes it seem as if its all natural, but that's hardly the case. Maybe avoiding all of those might help too?

My skin is dry and I use Origins "A Perfect World" moisturizer. I believe they also have an eye cream. It lasts forever because you use so little. It's not "greasy" feeling at all. But watch out--it can be addicting!

I have the same problem the only face cream that I can use without my eye area getting pink and irrated is Neutrogena Moisture Oil Free Formula, Sensitive Skin. It doesn't have any anti-aging things in it or spf or any of that other good stuff, but it is the only think I can use at all, it is about nine dollars and you can find it at most pharmacy stores and some super markets. Hope that helps.

You have gotten some good advice here. Since you're skin is so sensitive, and you don't wear much make up, you should do something all natural until you find the perfect product. A bit of olive oil, coconut oil, vitamin E, or anything natural will sooth the dryness. For real, go to your cabinet right now and dab on a tiny bit of olive oil! I use it for chap stick when I don't feel like searching around! I would look for natural products "Burt's Bee's" etc at health food stores. My daughter has severe excema. Sometimes I give her a break from the medicated cream and just use olive oil or coconut oil. It makes her skin softer than any lotion. Even vaseline is good on eyes. Alternate products, so your skin doesn't get immune to them. Good luck!

I recommend using Vitamin E Oil at night. It can be purchased at the drug store & a little goes a long way. I think you'll find it to be an effective, inexpensive solution that won't irritate your eyes. Good luck!

Clinique has a light moisturizer that I like. It goes with their facial cleaning products but you can buy it alone. It is very light and will not make your face greasy.

Hope this helps.

I love Lumessence by Aubrey Organics. It is expensive - $22 - but lasts me over a year. It will not grease up your face, it's very light. I love knowing I'm not putting poisons on the thin skin around my eyes. It comes in a bottle with a dispenser so you can't contaminate the rest of it with your finger. Good luck!

Have you tried any Clinique products? I don't spend a lot of money on makeup or moisturizer, except my face moisturizer. I use Clinique's Dramatically Different moisturizer. I started using it when everything else I used on my combination skin made me break out or dried me out so bad I cracked. This is something that I can use on every part of my face.

HI L.,
My eyelids get very dry in the winter, so I usually just put a small amount of sensitive skin moisturizer on them. My eyes and skin are very sensitve to what I use, even certain eye makeups bother my eyes. I have been using Cetaphil moisturizer. Just a very small amount does the trick, and it has never bother my eyes.

Good luck

Hi L.,

I highly recommend something called Acid Mantle (I know it sounds scary with "acid" in the title, but it's not.)
We sold it in the pharmacy I used to work in, but it does not require a prescription. It restores the correct pH balance to your skin. I have dry eyelids also and I use it on my eyes all the time. It never burns, even if it gets in your eye.
We sold it in a tube of cream and also a little pot of cream. I think the tube may have been about 8 bucks, but it last a long time. I really love this stuff - I use it on my daughter's thumb which is dry and cracked because of her constant thumb sucking. You may have to ask for it at the pharmacy or have them order it for you. It's well worth it.
Good luck!

You might want to see a dermatologist. Sounds like itmight be eczema. I had this a few time. Dry flakey skin on the lids, burning with lotion, etc. I needed a steroid cream to remedy the situation. Good luck.

Hi. I would recommend mary kay. I use and sell their products and have several customers that use the oil free eye make up remover or the cooling eye gel for eye moisture.
