Take her to the doctor. If it is pink eye, it,s contagious. And if it is an ear infection, she will need antibiotics.
my 13 month old daughter woke up this morning with crust around her eyes..during the same day, there was no drainage or crusting...the white park of her eye was red..i could see her tiny blood vessels when she turned her eye. its not puffy or swollen...and im thinking she might have an ear infection...do you think its pink eye? if so should i let it heal on its own or take her in
she woke up better. the eyes had no discharge..the pinkness is much lighter now...
Take her to the doctor. If it is pink eye, it,s contagious. And if it is an ear infection, she will need antibiotics.
Are you nursing by any chance? If so, it sounds weird, but squirt breastmilk in her eye! :)
Otherwise, I would clean it carefully and watch it another day....might be viral conjuncitivits. I would keep it clean and keep an eye on it. The eye might be red from her rubbing it?
Good luck!
It sounds like it could be pink eye. I would have them check for an ear infection too. My daughter had pink eye twice and the first time it was the start of an ear infection. Sometimes their ear canals are small so the infection comes out of the eye. At least that is what happened with us and my niece.
If she shows signs of an ear infection, take her to the doctor. If you feel she has pink eye, there are drops over the counter you can buy now. You will have to check on the age limits, as it may not be suitable for a toddler.
If she woke up with it again today, then yes it needs some kind of attention. If she is in daycare then pink eye is very likely. You may not need a doctor's visit - sometimes just a phone call and a description of the symptoms is enough. If you called them with what sounds like pink eye, my pediatrician's office would just send a prescription to the local pharmacy. This worked every time.
However if she is crying and pulling at her ears, then this might be an ear infection.
Either way, your pediatrician should have seen many many cases of both so give them a call and ask what s/he thinks.

Depending on the severity, I would first start by squirting breast milk into the infected area. Breast milk is a natural antibiotic specifically designed to sustain and uphold the baby's health. If after squirting breast milk into the eyes each time you breastfeed for a whole day or two you don't feel the infection either alleviating or disappearing entirely, then certainly consult a doctor. But any knowledgeable doctor will know this. Your midwife will for sure. Anyway my 7 month old had this for weeks, until i started consistently squirting breast milk into her eyes during breastfeeding. Causes no discomfort since it does not sting. And is perfectly safe. Infection was relieved within 1 day, and completely gone in 3.
Good luck hon! I am almost positive it will work for you. This works for ear infections and skin rashes too. Clarified butter is also great for skin dryness and or rashes. You can always check with doctor if not sure whether there is improvement. I didn't need to. I don't think they can offer anything except harmful antibiotics. Baby's organism is too small to handle antibiotics without side effects of some sort. So unless you absolutely must, i would stay away from chemical alternatives and stick to one of nature's most powerful creations, specifically designed to meet your little one's needs. Milk.
Pink eye is contagious. Have her seen by the pediatrician
when my 3 yr old had this she ended up having severe allergies and a double ear infection. take her in to the dr. immediately.
When my son was younger, pink eye was always why I took him to the MD and an ear infection was always what he had. Yes, I would take her in.
my daughter had eye infections on and off until she was about 18 months. so often that we were looking into having her tear ducts pierced to open them up.
we did do some antibiotic treatments, but if you want to give it a day or so, you can also use warm washcloth compresses to clean it out, and drip a little breastmilk into her eye - i read that it can clear up an eye infection, and it worked for us, no matter how crazy that sounds.
there are several causes of pink eye - bacterial, viral, so an antibiotic may not always be the right treatment.
yup. sounds just like pinkeye. some docs dont even need to see her and might write a prescription just based on your description. call the doc and see what they say. dont let it go; its VERY catchy.
We all have dry eyes and get stuff like that often, if it is an eye infection the pediatrician is the only one who can diagnose it. If a child has a sinus infection, strep, many different things the infection can come out the eye's, nose, mouth, ears, etc...any open hole it can find.
