I'm having the Essure procedure done on May 20th. Has anyone had this done? Basically, I want to know if the downtime REALLY is 1-2 or less? I didn't have my husband take any time off of work.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

This was the easiest thing EVER! I don't remember anything after moving to the operating table. I had cramps for about 30 minutes and felt better once I was able to eat and drink something. Since I didn't have my husband stay home from work I took a two hour nap and felt perfectly fine and went on about my day with my one year old son.

Now, I just have to wait three months to see if I scar enough to block the tubes all the way.

They will give you a shot of IB Proffen, and the procedure it self will only take MAYBE 10 minutes.. You will need a driver. Depending on how old your kids are, will tell you if you need your husband home the first day. If they are at school and can do things for themselves, you can get away with having your husband go to work. You just need to really relax the first day. And take it easy the next day. Don't be surprised if you get some cramping the next day. Your body might try to reject it because it is a foreign object they insert. Good luck.

I did have the Essure procedure done almost 2 years ago. Are you having it done in the Dr. office or under anthesia? I did it under anthesia as I didn't want to feel anything. It was very simple and I felt great. I just went home and slept off the anthesia and I was fine. I was so surprised by how easy the entire procedure was and took.

I had it done in office a year ago. I was a little drowsy for a few hours afterwards(I do not have the best reactions to narcotics) but I did not experience any pain. The next day I went back to work and everything was great!! My best friend also had a very good experience with this procedure(she had it first and suggested it for me when I was considering something permanent). Good Luck!!!

Hi C.
I had the procedure almost 2 years ago. I was tired and a litle sore for a few days. I had it done on a thursday, and by the end of the weekend I was as good as new. I was given lortab for the pain, but I didn't even need to take them, ibuprofin and rest was good enough!
If I can help you with any other questions feel free to ask!
good luck to you!

Hi C.,

I just had it done March 6th. I had my husband take off the day after just incase, I have a 2 1/2yr old & 8 month old sons. I didn't end up needing him, but was glad he was here just incase. I had mine done in the hospital as out patient by Dr. Nabity. I was very tired the day I had it, and came home & slept for several hours. I think everyone can be different, but I didn't think it was painful, and had no problems.

Good luck!

If done in the office, your down time should be less than a day. If done under general anesthesia, it's the anesthesia you're recovering from, and that's a day or two. If you're not having it done in the office, you may want to ask your physician why.

Let me know if you'd like to talk more.
