I recently found out that I will be having a boy. I have a daughter and have always been around girls so this will be very different and new for me. Are there any products or tips that can help prepare me.

What can I do next?

Oh girl, you are going to have so much fun! I have 2 boys... ages 6 and 3... and expecting another boy in May. I'm exactly opposite from you. It's all baby boys in my family and I wouldn't know what to do with a girl (although I would LOVE to have one!) Boys are great... active, rambunctious, sometimes fearless, but they love their mammas!!! You'll get quick at diaper changes. You'll also learn that the male fascination with their extra part begins AT BIRTH! And when you're getting them ready, just throw some clothes on them and go! No fixing hair, etc. You're going to love it!

Your boy will be the love of your life, just like your girl. Changing him is a little different. He's easier, in some ways to wipe...don't have to be specific about front to back... but he does have lots of folds & crevasses to get clean after a dirty diaper. And as for getting pee'd on, you'll get fast at changing him. It's no big deal(when they're small!)

My husband and I were both really geared up for a girl. We found out at 4 months that we were having a boy. Once we got over the sadness of not shopping for cute dresses and such, we started looking at all the fun of boys. I honestly cannot imagine what having a girl would be like now! My little boy is the light of my life and he's just so all boy it's adorable! We never really had problems with "the golden arch", just laid a wipie over him as we took the diaper off. Now that I teach 18 month olds at preschool, diaper changes with a boy are MUCH easier! As far as cute clothes, I shop everywhere, but I love The Children's Place and Old Navy. My son has always (even when he was tiny) worn windpants, fleece pants and that look, and both of those stores do that look well. Good luck and enjoy! When he gets older and says "I love you Mommy" your heart will melt all over again!

Bringing Up Boys by Dr. James Dobson is a great book. We had a daughter first too :) Also keep in mind that Autism is 1 in 150 children but MUCH more prevelant in boys. My nephew's autism awareness site is www.camsvoice.com and has some great information. I use all safer alternatives for my home products and personal care products to reduce my son's risk. You can also request more info. at www.SaferForYourHome.com/Texas
Congratulations and start buying BLUE!

A. honey your gonna get so many opinions, but I have four children and three are boys, so I am going in a whole different direction. But, have no fear I can help. You need to know that boys are more laid back in some ways than girls. my little almost five month old girl was holding her head up at 2mnths,the boys could have had no worries about that at that point. the one major thing I would say is the diapers. The boys will spray you done when cold air hits them, when your in the bathtub, and they will wet in the front of the diaper, therefore it will leak up the front of the clothes when/if they sleep on their bellies. They are not as emotional as girls ....You will need the same things, sleepers, blankets,etc.....when he gets older you will see how much easier they are than girls!

Congratulations A.,
I have 2 boys and have only been squirted about 4 times total between the two of them. I have a wipes warmer and covered them up with a washcloth till about 6 months. I always pointed them down when changing their diaper so they don’t pee up onto their cloths.

Boys are a ton of fun! By 12 months, footballs and dinosaurs will entertain them for hours, they are full of kisses and smell like dirt. You are going to love the change :-)

Good Luck!
E.

I know how you feel, i come from a family full of girls, no boys, so when i had my first son i had no clue what to do with "that". let me tell you, one time right after we brought him home i took his pamper off to give him a bath, and he peed shooting across the kitchen hitting the other wall (just barely dodged out of the way in time), so after that i always just barely opened the pamper peeked and if it looked like he wasnt ganna pee, i grabbed the other pamper and covered and put it on quickly. I was also told by the pedi., not to wipe them every single time they just peed, it could cause them to get a rash more easily, i think this may be true, my sister in law wiped my nephew all the time and he always had a rash, both my boys had one maybe two the entire time. Other than that i think the only other thing is the clothes, i think it is harder to find boys then girls (at least anything really cute). Sorry this is so long well good luck and have fun.

PeePee Teepees! They work great for the first few months when it seems like they pee at you every time you take their diaper off. I have a 2 yr old boy sandwiched between 4 yr old and 1 yr old daughters. Honestly, I was a little sad when I found out that my son wasn't the daughter I had envisioned. Now, I am so glad that he was a he. Little boys are so different from little girls in so many neat ways. We want one more child and I think this time around I'll be a little sad if it isn't a boy. One big perk is that you can wipe them any direction you want when you are changing diapers. Cute baby clothes are a lot harder to find, but they are out there, you just have to look harder. Carter's normally has a lot of cute baby boy stuff. Congrats!

I had my first boy after two girls (and he was the first boy in our family in over 27 years!). The only realy difference is making sure they don't pee on you since they tend to shot up rather than going all over the table like girls.
I would get the book "Real Boys"--it discusses just how important a strong, loving, mother-son connection is. It is very eye-opening!
On clothes--from 0-2, look at Hanna Andersson and Ralph Lauren; after, check out Crewcuts. I absolutely LOVE that store for my son (and my girls too!). Warning-- boy clothes cost more--you can't just buy a dress; you need the shirt, the pants and jacket. You can find cute clothes-you just need to try harder!
Congrats on the new boy--he will melt your heart!!!
