I have a healthy baby boy (9 months old) who wets my bed almost any night he sleeps with me.(Being the nights that I am too lazy to carry him to his own room.) Because if he nurses any at night he has a lot to soak his diaper with :( I was using cheaper brand diapers, but now I bought some Huggies for at night (paying 23 cent per diaper) I thought it was working, but no! He has soaked my bed the last few nights again. And when I get up to change him, the diaper don't feel like it is very wet.. He can only sleep soundly on his tummy and that makes it soak worse in the front..These Huggies don't hold too much in front, I guess.. Does anyone have a suggestion on a better diaper, I guess I will have to pay whatever to find the right diaper for him. Thanks for ANY help, I am at my wits end with washing my mattress pad and sheets every day :(

What can I do next?

Try cloth. Many perks to cloth but for one, overall, are much less expensive than disposables. There are hundreds on the market to choose from (All In Ones, diapers with covers etc). At night, I double up. I use one Hemp diaper becuase they hold a ton of liquid and a standard cotton diaper over top of it(I think it is softer to his skin). On the rare occassion that my son is in a disposable at night, he leaks almost every time. We don't have the same problem when I use the hemp/cotton combo. Good luck.

I agree with Michelle! I switched to cloth when my daughter was 4 months old and she is still using the same diapers-and she is now almost 19 months old! Talk about savings! I would suggest a one-size pocket diaper that you stuff with the liner it comes with and 2 or 3 hemp liners. Hemp liners are very thin but very absorbent. If you don't want to make the full switch to cloth you could buy 3 one size diapers and wash every other evening or two. Since I've switched to cloth I've had maybe 3 or 4 nighttime leaks and it's usually because I didn't put the diaper on right. Also, use one of the pads designed for laying across the crib underneath you both to help keep your bed dry even if he has a leak. If you are interested in trying cloth send me a pm and I can give you some great sites and any info you might need to get started since there is a learning curve. :)

My son soaked every diaper I bought except Pampers stay dry!!! At night I had to use "diaper doubles" with the pampers to keep him from soaking the bed. I couldn't find diaper doubles in stores so I bought them in bulk off the internet- they look like large pads you would use during "your time" but they are placed in the diaper for extra absorbency and they really work!!

Good luck!

they make something called diaper doublers, publix sells them they a like a giant maxi pad you put inside the diaper for boys you can position it right in front
also the overnight diapers work well too, they do cost more but you can have a pack for just at night
also try putting a waterproof liner and towel under him, especially when he is on your bed so you can just wash the towel and not scrub the whole bed
I Know exactly what you are going through!

I don't have a little one in diapers anylonger, but I have a suggestion. Buy some "puppy pads" from the pet department and lay him down on that. It should absorb any wetness and not soak through to your bed. Of course, I would lay a baby sheet on top of the pad. I would check out to see if there was a scent before using, though. The puppy pads I have do not have any scent. Actually, they look like a large flat water proof maxi pad....

I would guess that these type products are all made in the same factor.

I am an older grandma and in our day we used to have thick pads of various sizes to use under our precious ones either in the crib or elsewhere to help with problems same as these. I recently bought a heavy cotton mattress pad( from an outlet store) and sewed blanket tape or something like it around the edges of the size I needed and gave them to my daughter to use in the crib or bed or changing table. I am sure they would work in your bed too especially if you made them a little larger. I would add a plastic layer covered with another cloth layer to cover it as plastic is dangerous for children and carefully use it under him in the bed. You can also use a combination of these suggestions by using a drawsheet ( a folded sheet once used in hospitals, to go over the middle of the bed and tucked in on both sides( about one third of the bed is covered in the middle across) that could absorb your extra moisture and give you a break from all that laundry of bedclothes every day. Good luck with your darling baby Rose

We had this problem with my son when he was that age. The generic brand never worked for us. We tried the Huggies, but those didn't really work either. The ones we finally went with were Pampers. After we started putting him in those, we he never really leaked through. I didn't nurse my son so I may be completel wrong on this, but maybe you could change him one of the time he gets up to nurse if he's not wet. Although if he's sleeping, you definitely don't want to do that because you don't want to wake a sleeping baby.

Funny you should mention that....my son is 19 months old and has recently been peeing out of his diaper too. So I bought the huggies nighttime diaper and felt the same way....it is like it doesn't absorb at all! I went back to using the Huggies supremes at night and they are working fine. Although, it works better when I change him in the early morning [4am](he doesn't really wake) and that helps him sleep in longer. When he was peeing out of his diaper, he would soak everything and it would wake him up at 5:30.

Hello! I feel your pain... I am a mommy of 3 beautiful boys and one gorgeous little girl. All of my boys were (& one still is) heavy wetters. Commercial diapers are not all the same, and neither are our children's bottoms. Huggies work better for some, while Pampers work better for others. You just need to find the right fit.

Suggestion: Cloth diapers at night whereby you can customize the absorbancy by adding soaker layers(they make cloth diapers that are waterproof now). Also, make sure his little "member" is pointing DOWN when you diaper him.

Best of Luck!

I'd change him during the night. If you are feeding him throughout the night, one of those times I would just do a quick change.

Also, it's not necessarily that the diapers don't hold a lot, it's that since he is sleeping on his tummy, only the front part of the diaper is getting soaked. It would be awesome if the none wet area would draw the moisture that way, but they don't. My son wears diapers overnight, sleeps on his tummy most of the night. Plenty of mornings the front of his diaper...and self will be wet, but the back of the diaper is barely wet. Makes you nutty. Fleece is a good water barrier. So put your son in a fleece sleeper, pants, shorts, diaper cover and that will help prevent everything on the outside from getting wet. My son is such a heavy wetter that we do both-diaper cover and pants. Fleece diaper covers can be found online in cloth diapering websites.

You can try putting urinary incontinence pads in the diaper towards the front. COntour or Poise pads work but get the smaller liners. They almost look like a mini pad. Aso put him in the next bigger size diaper so there is more room to pee but tape it tight around the abdomen. You can also look for a "rubber sheet" as we used to call them to put under him.

My five month old son has been through generic Target, Walmart, Dollar General and Huggies brand and has leaked through all of those at night too (pee). I tried Pampers 12 hours last night and he didn't leak. Also remember to 'tuck and cover' when you put the diaper on him. My son is a tummy sleeper too so I wonder if the pee goes towards the front of the diaper where there is less material than the back which would happen if he were sleeping on his back?

HI H.,
First of all, you are not lazy- you are TIRED- give yourself credit!!!!
Second- I always found that huggies leaked with my baby. I used the Pampers Swaddlers, and then Pampers Cruisers when he got to that stage. He is still in Size 4 cruisers. He slept/nursed with us until about 5 months. And I nursed him in the night for quite a while (usually about 2 am).
I also tried Makers Mark (Sam's club) diapers, and they gave him diaper rash. So I figure it is better to spend the money and know what I am getting than to end up with wetness, rash, etc and a bunch of diapers I don't want to use.
Congrats on your lil guy!

Two words - Diaper Doublers!

I used to get them at Publix. I didn't discover them until late in the game and my DS1 was wet every night. I also didn't know about the "point the apparatus down" trick, which I think would have helped with DS1.

Anyway we used Huggies overnights and diaper doublers and our lives were a lot drier.

Diaper Doublers!

They look kinda like a maxi pad but they are the best thing ever. you put then in the diaper and voila extra absorbancy. You can get them in Publix (usually on the top shelf and hard to find) and BRU. we also had best luck in moving to the larger size diaper when we hit the min weight on the next size. Pampers has extra absorbancy diapers and huggies has night time diapers that work a little harder than regulars. also the pampers cruisers actually absorb more than the baby dri's (one of the baby mags had an article on that).

Good luck!

I'm not sure if you have this answer yet, but I have two boys who are heavy heavy liquid drinkers, one of which I nursed for 7 mths and who co-slept with me. I have always been a big supporter of Pampers, tehy are more expensive, but they literally are the best in my book for diapers (pull ups I always go with Huggies). I very rarely have leaks, even when I'm SURE there isn't a drop more that could have fit in there. I even took one of my children swimming in one to see what would happen and it literally BURST it was able to hold so much water.

If you want to try the cheaper brands still, maybe try changing his diaper during one of the night feedings. Try keeping it close to teh bed so you don't have to even get up, just fumble thru in the dar.

Good luck

BJ's has good prices on them as well as their own coupons monthly and they take the ones form the Sunday aper ads to. You can sign up at Pampers.con to get coupons and samples, etc. They are totally worth the money!

Also, as someone else mentioned, makign sure the pee-pee is pointing down makes a huge difference -day or night!

Good morning H.. I am also a mother of a healthy boy and I co-sleep (on purpose) and I always nursed throughout the night. I use Seventh Generation diapers on both my kids. I do not find them to be that much more expensive than Huggies or Pampers. I have always ordered them online from Amazon.com. I signed up for the Super Saver plan so they ship for free. I pay $38 for 104 diapers that are delivered to me every month (you can customize your own schedule) without having to ever think about reordering or running out at the last minute. Besides being eco-friendly they are awesome diapers. I now have an 8 month old daughter who also uses Seventh Generation and they are great for her too. They fit great; they are chlorine-free which is great for sensitive babies. I've never had to double up or use a doggie pad. Seriously the best diapers ever.

I discovered the same problem with my son when he was younger. We were also using huggies and he would sleep mostly on his tummy. When he would wake up, his clothes were soaked but the diaper was hardly wet. We tried changing brands and still had no luck. I finally tried pulling the diaper up more in the front, usually just above his belly button (you may need to buy a larger size inorder for this to work). With other brands this seemed to help, though huggies still leaked. We now use Luvs as our little one is allergic to pampers and I am not washing sheets everyday if I don't have too but, he is 10 months old now and we have finally put a stop to most of the leaks.

Definitely try the Diaper Doublers! I get them at Publix in the diaper section and they are about 3.00 for 30.

My little guy has ALWAYS peed through with Huggies...since he was born. They just don't work for us at all. We used Pampers for his first year and then he developed a diaper rash that would not go away until we switched to Luvs (made by the same company as Pampers, but obviously there is some difference since he doesn't reaction to Luvs.) We still had times, during growth spurts and such, that he would pee through at night, usually having urine come through around the waist line. I got the diaper doublers and after a couple nights of experimenting how I put the doubler in the diaper, we've never had any further problem. They basically look like feminine pads and you can position it more towards the front or back depending on your child's need.

I use them also on long car rides. I think the way my son is built, the position the car seat keeps him in and the general leg gap with the diapers makes him have trouble with peeing through his clothes when in the car. The diaper doublers fix that problem too.

Want to save your pocketbook, the environment and your child's testicle health long term??? Cloth diapers. They are non toxic (unlike the gels that absorb urine and press against his genitals), don't pile up in the landfills never biodegradable, and you just plop them in your machine, wash them and either sun dry or dryer them, both sterilize them. It's natural, healthy and cheap. The cloth diapers aren't like the old fashioned ones, they are pre folded, look like the regular bad for the environment ones. You can buy inserts for more absorption. http://www.kidbean.com/nsearch.html?query=cloth+diapers&a...
I spent about $125 in total on diapers for the entire time my daughter was in diapers. And.... you can use them on your next child too! Talk about a win win situation.

But we definitely had leaking problems at night with generics and with Luvs. We did good with Huggies, I just like pampers better. And I'm with everyone else, if you don't already, make sure he's pointing down - that may or may not help. Could just be he's a heavy wetter too....... Good luck!
