Entertainment for My 13 Month Old

I was wondering if any of you know about any form of entertainment for my 13 month old... She loves Borders story time (although Tuesdays we are not usually in the Bangor area!). The library story time is also nice... but I was wondering if there was something out there I didn't know about... that she's missing out on... any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I write for the Maine Switch magazine and on the Family Page there is a calendar of Family Events every week. The Switch can be found all over Portland and surrounding grocery stores. Or go to www.themaineswitch.com and click on Family Time.

Hey K., I did Gymboree with my daughter from the time she was 6 mos untill 2 yrs. It is soo much fun for them, and they modify it by age so they get to play with babies their own age. Plus I met a lot of other moms, and would then make play dates. Do you belong to a play group? I never did, only b/c I had friends already with children close in age. But you could try and join a play group around your area. Oh and their is also swimming lessons, you would have to go into the water her but it is very fun, and good bonding time!! Hope this helps!!

What town are you in? story time is great, music things are fun..but a playgroup is the best as you can have it weekly and it is really for you also!

Ask some of the osm at story time about meeting up for a playgroup at each others homes or anywhere. That way your daughter can start the interaction with kids her own age and build on it for years to come.

Drop me a note if you want to talk more about it.

Good Morning K.,
I am not from the Bangor area, but I know in my area, there are some places that hold story hours like the library and local book stores. Have you ever heard of Early Head Start? It is a great program for little ones and their families, you can google it and it'll bring up your local information. Have you tried looking into some museums around the area to see if they have a free night? I know the Children's Museum of Maine in Portland, has the first Friday night of the month from 5-8 FREE, Every month! Another thought might be to check online for some local events going on. Have you ever heard of meetups.com? That is also a great place to meet people in your area, with the same interests as you and your little one. Good luck and hope at least some of this helped you.

www.bangorbaby.com has all kind of information for things to do, and categories to help you find free stuff, indoor play, things that work around working parents's schedules, etc.

You can look into Kindermusik. I know they have several locations. There are also programs at the YMCA like Mommy and me swimming lessons for the little ones. When she hits 2 years old there are many dance studios where she can take creative movement classes where they learn pre-ballet, tap and tumbling. Hope this helps!
