Empire Carpet - Flower Mound,TX

I just saw a commercial for Empire carpet/flooring. We are in desperate need of new carpeting in a couple of rooms, and the commercial said buy 1 room of flooring and get 2 free. I was wondering what the catch was, so I called that very popular phone number song of theirs (800-588-2300 EMPIRE), and learned that installation is NOT included. When I asked her how much installation typically runs, she wouldn't tell me - said she didn't know. I am guessing that installation would be pricey, therefore, not making Empire a bargain. So, is Empire really a good deal? I am thinking not! If anyone has used Empire, please tell me if I would be saving money, and what kind of experience you had with them. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Empire carpet are wonderful and they stand by their product. However, they will give you a crazy estimate so you will have to bargain with them. I own a childcare center and their estimate was double the other prices. The salesman said to me what are you willing to pay lol!! I said free would be nice. Anyway he met the other estimates I had and they did an awesome job. As a matter of fact one of the seams was opening in one of my classrooms and began to fray (it is inexpensive commercial carpet) and not only did they come right out, they replaced the entire room of carpet. They stood by their guarantee. Most places would have done a repair job so I was impressed. I would get other estimates and then have them come out last to try to compete with price.

I agree with the others that you can negotiate with the sales rep that comes out to give you the estimate. My recommendation would be to get estimates from at least two others prior to getting the estimate from Empire as they will normally only agree to a negotiated price if you sign your contract that day.

Go with Lowes or Home Depot...I have done both with great results and installation is dirt cheap. THats a load of bull the lady did not know also.

I think they are pretty pricey in the end. It wouldn't hurt to have them come out, but I would have detailed estimates from at least 1 or 2 other places in hand BEFORE your Empire appt. They have a pretty high pressure sales pitch that requires you buy right then. If you have other quotes you will either be content with buying from Empire if they are competitively priced, or may be able to use them as bargaining tools to get a better price.
We used them several years ago, but we got a particularly good deal because we were able to barter with some sports tickets my husband had access to. ( I am sure this was a unique situation, I highly doubt they normally "barter," but they brought it up, cleared it with their manager, and planned to use the tickets as a "business night out"). I don't think we would have gone with them otherwise, I hate high pressure sales. I did like the next day installation, and had no problems with the carpet or installation for the next 5 years we lived in that house.

Get a quote from them for the whole job and then shop around. We used Empire to replace the carpet in one bedroom 2 years ago. I talked to Lowes and Home Depot and their quotes without installation were several hundred dollars more than Empire's total quote. Another local flooring company refused to even come out for a quote unless the could speak to my husband also, even though the house and credit card are in my name alone (Yes, I wrote them a letter letting them know what I thought of their antiquated policies.) Empire did a great job, the carpet is beautiful and we were able to finance interest free for a year even though it was just one room and less than $500.

Knowing what it costs to buy carpeting from an actual furniture store and then to pay for installation--Empire is a total ripoff. We spent under $5K going with a private store and their installer for the whole house to have upper end carpeting, top of the line padding--including steps...they are usually charged extra--& laminate flooring installed (and we're in a 17 room home). You may want to shop around if you're able.

Hi Michelle,
Wow... I just made an appointment myself just one hour ago! I saw the commercial this morning and thought.... well, I can spare an hour if he's coming the house to share samples and discuss price. (Let it be my "homework" for shopping for carpet!) I really DO think it will still be cheaper because there is no store opened to the public so I think their costs will be cheaper because of it.

I am also calling Luna capets because they advertised a really good sale too. I am not sure if you guys have them in Texas, though. I am sure there is some kind of catch but who knows.... maybe it will still be less than other places.

Recently, I stopped in a store that only does carpeting, hardwood floors and tiles and the woman who owns the store told me right up front that her price would be higher than places like Lowes, Empire, etc... because she pays for the BEST carpet installers. Of course.... she is going to say this to me toget give her my business. She said "of course, they can be cheaper because they don't have certified, top knotch intallers putting in your carpet." She warned me about who I use because if the wrong person is installing it, the carpet will begin to buckle. But.... I think I am going to take that chance and use Lowe's (or maybe Empire or Luna if there estimate and warranty are good.)
Empire is coming out to my house next Monday!
Good luck! I, too, am in need of new carpeting in three rooms. I hope you don't mind me posting since I did not have experience with Empire YET. (Some moms on this site seem to get annoyed if you post a comment if it is not DIRECTLY related to the question.)

We've used them 3 times. 2x for carpet and 1x for window treatments. All 3 have been good experiences.

I couldn't tell you what the charge was for installation with each - it's been awhile. But I did get competitve quotes from Luna (for the carpet) and someone else for the windows, and Empire was cheaper.
And they really do install next day.

It doesn't hurt to have someone come out and give you a price. I can't speak to what you'd pay, since every house and circumstance is different. But we've felt they were fair.

They will come out and give you a free estimate, so go ahead and do it. But when we changed the carpets in our bedrooms a couple of years ago, Empire was our most expensive estimate. However, they weren't running any special offers at the time.

I had them come out to quote on our flooring. It wasn't carpet but hardwoods. They were such a rip off! They claim all of their savings based on crazy inflated prices and then push you to sign right away to hold their "cheap" price.
The first quoted $20K on the floors, then it got down to $11K...to show us what a deal we were getting. We ended up using Lowes and it cost us $6k.
I did recently have my carpets redone. It was by my carpet cleaner. Carpets are easy to redo, unless of course you are looking for a top line product. So it all depends what price range. I had another carpet guy come out and he was a really good deal - but we just didn't want to install that "nice" of carpet in the end since we were selling our house.

We used Empire for our hardwood and carpet. They were about 2000 dollars cheaper than Lowes who was running at deal at the time. I love my hard woods, carpet is OK. Probably better quailty carpet could be found at another store for more money. We had a baby on the way and I just wanted new clean carpet. We made a deal with them on a Tuesday at 5:30 when the salesman came to the house. The workers were at our house at 9am the next morning. They moved all the large pieces of furniture and disassembled and reassembled beds. It was installed and they were out of our house with everything back in place by Wednesday at 6pm! About 2600 square feet! I recommend them.

I worked as a flooring specialist for one of the big box stores. I say stay far away from empire. They are way over priced for sub standard quality. You are better off shopping Lowes or Home Depot. Even local mom and pop stores offer better prices.

I got an estimate and was going to get new carpet in several rooms but as I looked over my budget I realized I was going to have to delay the carpet replacement so I called to cancel. They kept saying they wanted to keep the installation people working and were willing to come down in price. I kept telling them I just couldn't afford it at this time and they cut the price in half. I did not replace the carpet for several more years. I am not an expert but I think their mark up is quite large and I think you have to do some research and negotiate with them. I think that is why they have the sale. I am pretty sure that in the end you are paying the same as anywhere else although it sure sounds good on the television ad.
