Where to Go for Carpet

Anyone know of a good place to buy carpet for living room that isn't priced real high? Does Menards install carpet? Also do you just give your measurements and then they come to install? So they do need to come get the measurements themselves?

What can I do next?

It really depends on the quality of the carpet and padding. I think they are really all the same. Just know that you might get a better price at one place per sq. ft. but then you'll have to pay for installation and haul away. Others will offer free installation and haul away but then their price per sq. ft is a little higher. Either way they are covering all their costs. It makes it frustrating to comparison shop though.

Carpet costs are dependent on:

- type of carpet
- square footage
- if a carpet pad is used underneath. And what thickness it is.

They need to get measurements. Not just from you.
Then look at the space.
Then install.

I can't remember which one it is (I just saw a commercial for it this past weekend) but either Home Depot or Lowe's is offering a deal right now that if you buy your carpet through them installation is free along with the carpet pad that goes underneath.

Might be worth looking into?

We used Empire Today. They came out with samples, gave a quote, we ordered and next day it was being installed. They are constantly having deals. Great company and I will use them again the next time we need flooring.

We ordered our carpet on-line from a wholesaler in Georgia. It's much cheaper that way. You can call Menards to get a list of independent carpet installers, and they can help you measure. My best advice is to get continuous fiber when selecting a carpet because then it won't get fuzzy and peel apart/get stuck in the vaccuum cleaner.

I just came across this link--hopefully it helps! http://alanjohn1.wordpress.com/2011/01/10/how-to-buy-carp...

When we were in Phoenix, AZ we bought carpet from a warehouse. They came and measured and then on another day came and installed it.

I recommend checking out wholesale carpet warehouses. Even Lowes and Home Depot are much less expensive than a place than a carpet store with displays and sales people. I don't know how to explain the difference, sorry.

We had great luck with Home depot and Lowe's. Process is a little long. You go to the store and set up appt for someone to come out and measure. Then the measurements are sent back to store and they call you to come in and go over the dollar amount. Next you place the order and schedule and installation.

My Manager just used Empire a month back. They came out with samples and measured. Carpet installed the NEXT day. Not bad!!

We just got our new carpet from Kelly's Carpet Outlet. I don't know if you have one of those there. We chose a carpet they had in stock and we got carpet for 3 rooms, installation, and their best padding for $1300. We were able to give them our measurments and they went off of those. They would come out and measure if needed though. We were also able to get it installed the next day.
I don't know if Menards does carpet. We checked at Home Depot. Their carpet is a little more expensive, but not so much it was a big deal. They have to come out and measure themselves. They also have to order the carpet and everything. The guy at Home Depot said it would take them about 4 weeks to do everything. Measuring, ordering and waiting for carpet and then installation.

We went to Home Depot. Yes, they come out and do the measurements. We then can just go into the store and pick out which carpet we want and they install carpet also. They have a lot of selections and pretty good prices too.

We used Soref's Carpet City. It's a reeeally good price if you use the carpet they have in stock. It was almost 6 years ago, so I can't remember how much we payed, but we got 3 rooms, 3 closets (2 rather large) and our stairs easily for under $600. We used berber carpeting because we knew it was more durable and wouldn't show wear as easily. Hope that helps!
