Embroidery a Special Gift!

My daughter is graduating high school in a couple of weeks. One of the gifts I have made her was a really nice blanket, which she has been wanting. However, my problem is trying to find the perfect words to embroidery on it. I am just so proud of her ...she has basically did it all on her own ... she has been so dedicated to making excellent grades. I don't remember the last time or maybe it was the one time she made below a "B". haha! Most of her grades were "A's" ...

My point is, I want to really put something sentimental on this blanket (School Colors) besides 2008 ... so it will be a great memory and keepsake. So if you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

What can I do next?

You seem to be a spiritual family, is there a passage from the bible that menas something to her, or from a book that she would think of you in a fond way for remembering that that was her favorite author and her favorite passage? Lyrics to a song you both like to sing together? Is their a phrase that means soemthing to just you and her, or the family? Once you sit and doodle your thoughts for a minute, you will need two blankets!

I like the Bible verse idea a lot!

I was at my GYN's office last week and her daughter had taken a portion of "Love you Forever" book and painted it on a piece of wood for her mother. It was beautiful. If you don't have a copy of this book you can find it cheaply at any 1/2 price book or maybe at the library.

Congratulations! I know you are SO proud of her and it sounds like you have good reason to be!

Blessings!

If you are religious do you have a favorite bible verse? You could embroider the entire verse, part of it or just use the book & numbers and then she can look it up. Here is one of my favorite for events such as this....

"I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jer 29:11)

Have you thought about doing the blanket in her future college colors? She'll be able to use it for years beyond her education.

I did something similar when my daughter graduated. I took all of her cheerleading tshirts and cut out the cute sayings, sewed them onto a square and then quilted the whole thing. I took a picture of her in her cheerleading outfit to the mall and had a tshirt made with her picture for the center. That personalized it for her, but on the corner of the quilt I put a little tag I found at Hancock fabrics. It said 'Handmade with Love, by Mom'. It looks like a tag you would find in the back of a shirt, just the brand tag. She loved the quilt, but told me the best part was the tag because she knew that I had indeed put some much love into the quilt just for her. She's been out of college for three years now and still shows her quilt every chance she gets.

How about "the future is yours...", "I can do all things through Christ who strenghtens me", "when you wish upon a star...", or even just "the alpha and omega"?

You could use a special nickname, something she would remember you saying from her childhood, "so proud of you," a Bible verse or scripture reference.
