Embarrassing Question - Chicago,IL

Okay, so for several weeks now I've had really awful smelling gas. I have no idea why...I hadn't changed my diet at all except that while we were away for 3 weeks, I ate steel cut oats every morning for breakfast. I thought maybe it was way too much fiber, so when we returned home, I stopped...the gas is less but still present and it's driving my husband crazy and I feel so gross! I don't have any abdonimal pain with it and I don't know what else to cut out of my diet. Maybe I'm eating too much fruit? The only dairy I have is yogurt or kefir, and occasionally some low-fat cheese, so I doubt it's that. Either way, I'm not sure where to start here...not only does the gas smell awful but when I have a bowel movement, it also smells absolutely toxic. Yuck. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? I was thinking of buying some ginger tea and just drinking that for a few days to see if this settles.

Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks...I guess I should probably consult a doctor given how long this has been happening. It's so mortifying...good thing I'm not working right now.

I am sorry, I have to tell you though, I read this while at work on my lunch break eating a bowl of Ramen Noodles, I had to Laugh out LOUD! Sorry but on the "real" side. when my hubby gets like that (I usually tell him his insides are rotting) I put him on the BRAT diet for a day or 2. Bananas Rice Applesauce Toast. and to make it more "filling" for him I make the white rice with butter and chicken bulion (sp?) to make it seem more hearty. works for my man 6 foot 4, 320lbs it should work for you. Good luck!

There are several different things that come to mind. The two that are foremost in my thoughts are 1) pregnancy and 2) gallstones. The first symptom of my latest pregnancy was horrible gas. When that went away, I was so relieved! And then I got gallstones and again have that same experience.

Check with your doctors and see what could be up. They are the best ones to help in these situations. Good luck!

PS In the meantime, you could "Dutch oven" your husband and laugh hysterically, just like a junior high boy. Have some fun with it if you can!

You might have developed an allergy. Personally? I'd go visit the doctor just to make sure I didn't have some sort of bug. Sorry!

Absolutely call your doctor and have a conversation about it.

I'd caution you to be careful when researching online because there are so many more non-credible sites for health information than there credible ones.

I'd recommend seeing if there's any information on the American College of Gastroenterology's website: http://www.acg.gi.org/ , MayoClinic.com

Self diagnosing and treating may actually make it worse if you need to get to the doctor and be more intensively treated. A call to the office is free, well worth asking their advice. Believe me, they've heard much worse than people with noxious gas. You wouldn't believe some of the stories I heard from doctor's offices in 9 years of pharmaceutical sales experience.

I would certainly get checked out by a doctor since it has been going on for several weeks. Those could be symptoms of a lot of different things and it's best for you and your doc to sort thru it and see what she/he recommends as far as testing.

Where is it you traveled? you could have picked up a parasite. Lookup flatulence and paprasites online.

Gluten intolerance can cause noxious poo and gas.

Sounds like you need a good cleanse. And, stay away from any artificial sweeteners. They are so bad for you and can cause this problem.
