Ears Burn When I Wear Yellow or White Gold Earrings

I've had my ears pierced since I was little. I have no problem wearing inexpensive earrings, but a few years ago I got an expensive pair of yellow gold earrings that had a bar that went through your ear & clipped onto the back of earring.(no post or backs)& every time I wore them my ears would burn.  I kept trying them & finally it got better where I could wear them for a day. Then a few days ago I got a pair of diamonds earrings with white gold settings. After the first day, the burning started again.  I don't get why I can wear the cheap ones but not the expensive ones!  Does anyone have any ideas?

What can I do next?

Ears are really sensitive. I'm allergic to almost every kind of metal in my ear, so I only wear earings on special occasions.

im not sure, i just got my ears redone a couple weeks ago and got the titanium ear rings i just put stainless steel in so ill see how it goes, but you may be allergic to the gold, or it may be gold plated

I also am allergic to any metals on my skin other than surgical steel.

I can sometimes wear a dangle type earring, but never a stud..

The older I got the worse it became.

I've never been able to wear gold. It's sterling silver or stainless steel only for me.

I used to be able to wear all kinds of earrings when I was younger, it didn’t matter what type of medal was used. Now that I am older I cannot wear any, my ears burn, itch and swell up within minutes. I have tried clear nail polish and putting Neosporin on the posts and my ears beforehand, they helped a little bit. Our bodies change as we get older and there are times when we develop allergies to different things including medals.

Try painting clear nail polish on just the posts.

For the set with a post you can have a jeweler put in a surgical steel post. I can't picture the other set and so have no suggestions.

I have no answer as to why you're sensitive to gold but apparently you are. Does gold jewelry, such as a ring, also cause this problem?

My grandmother painted the back of costume jewelry with clear nail polish because her skin was sensitive. It worked.

Some people are sensitive to gold (my best friend is) but fine with other metals like surgical steel or silver.
