Ear Piercing - Woodbridge, VA

My daughter just turned 5 and wants to get her ears pierced. Granted, I planted the thought but now I'm a little nervous. Is she too young? Where should we go to have it done? Our pediatrician does it but after googling, I thought maybe a place that does body piercing might be better because they use a thin needle, not a compression gun. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

I don't think she is too young. I had my daughter's ears pierced when she was 4 months old. I did at a clair's in the mall but it was done in another state than what I live in now. I would think a body piercing shop would be better because that is there main job verses Walmart or a jewelry store. It happens so fast. She will feel a sting but she will be fine. They can also do them both at the same time. A person on each ear. Good Luck and don't worry she will be fine.

if you think she might be too young than she is! just my opinion. i remember getting my ears pierced and it was a big deal (i was around 10). i would wait. if you do decide to do it and it is one ear at a time there is a chance she will not want the second ear done.

Hi,
We got our daughters ears pierced when she was 3 months old at Piercing Pagoda in the mall. (Potomac Mills...the one near Kirklands). They did a great job and she did wonderful. She didnt cry at first but then on the second one she did a lil but by the time we were up and walkin she was fine. They never got infected you just need to clean and twist them everyday. Just as long as your daughter knows that she cant play with them I think you will be fine! Clairs also does a good job. Its up to you!!!

I had my ears pierced when I was 6, but I was definitely too young to take of them. I guess my mom didn't pay much attention to them either because she was busy with 3 kids. My ears got infected and swollen and there was pus everywhere. I took them out and let them heal up - got them done again at age 12 and have been fine. My point is, go ahead and do it, but make sure you're helping her keep them clean!

My daughter was 4 months old. Never had a problem. I went to a percing shop in the mall, same place I, myself, have used before, and had no trouble. My daughter is now two and she loves to look at them in the mirror and she notices other people wearing them also.

My daughter had hers done after her 6 months shots (mainly cause everyone thought she looked like a boy and we thought it might ward off some hims and he's-it didn't. I had trouble after doing so also because she looked so much more grown up and not so babyish-it took some getting use to. I had hers done in the the Fredericksburg mall and two girls did both at the same time with a gun. I recommend this over one at a time especially since she is older-she might not want the other after having one done and it gets it over quickly with just a scare. I also recommend allowing you pediatrician to do it if they do so because you can be sure it will be the most sterile environment. I forgot the name of the place (it wasn't Peircing Pagoda because I did not like how all their studs set out and could have bacteria or germs on them). Her earings came out of a sterile case that was opened in front of me and they cleaned the gun and her ears thoroughly before putting them in. Also note a compression gun puts the earing right in there is no making the hole then inserting the earing. Quick and easy for the experienced piercer.

My daughter had her ear done at age 5 as well. We went to the piercing pagoda at Fair Oaks Mall. They were great. They used the piercing gun, and did both ears at the same time. She didn't even flinch. Good luck.

I don't think it's too early. I had my daughters ears pierced at 9 months, so she wouldn't play with them. I would recommend your pediatrician. My daughter's pediatrician does not do it but they were able to recommend a reputable place. The piercing place I went to was able to do both ears at the same time and my daughter whimpered and that was it. Good luck!
