Dry/cracked Skin on Feet- Any Suggestions?

Hello,
I know this has nothing to do with being a mom, but I have extremely dry and cracked skin on the heels of my feet. It's so bad I might have to go to a dermatologist I think. Has anyone tried any lotions or other products that help? I usually file away at the skin on my feet, put a ton of lotion on, and put socks on. But they still look pretty bad.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

The hemp foot protector works wonders!
http://www.thebodyshopathome.com/web/faithjones/products/...

The link above should take you right to it! If not you can go to
http://www.thebodyshopathome.com/web/faithjones
and search hemp products.

Another product that works well is neosporin. The triple antibiotic cream I have used it before I like the hemp better but in a pinch it works well! You can pick that up at any drug store!

The hemp has healing properties in it and you don't need much put it on and use socks at night you will notcie a huge difference!

I used to have such horrible times with my heels cracking this stuff has been a life saver!! You can also use the peppermint which feels nice if you can take the time to use the pumice with a scrubber in the shower and lotion at night etc. Good Luck I hope you feel better soon!

Try Zim's crack cream. You can get it at Walmart or CVS.

I worked for a Podiatrist for 5 years. Have you tried slathering your feet every night with lotion, like Eucerin, and then putting socks on? Using a pumice stone helps some people or even getting a pedicure. But that sometimes is only temporary. If this doesn't work I would try a podiatrist. Sometimes dry cracked skin is more than just "dry skin".
Either way if you go to a podiatrist or a dermatologist they should be able to help you.
Good Luck!

I have the same problem, and after trying MANY different products, I have had the most success with a glycerin cream. I like one called Glysolid, available at Ulta. "File" the dry dead skin, apply the cream overnight and be amazed at what the morning brings! No socks necessary...

The aquafor does work great after a shower, as it holds that moisture in so well and the aquafor has healing ingredients for your skin in it, unlike regular vaseline. When it's not just after a shower, a moisturizer (as opposed to a lotion) like Eucerin worked well on my feet. I got the hang of how to control the dry cracked skin on the feet after going to a dermotologist for my 3 year old son's severely dry skin all over. Tried those things on my feet and it worked. For the moisturizer, I tried the Walmart Equate brand that's comparable to Eucerin and it worked at $4 instead of $15 for a tub. I figured if we are all (both my sons and I at least) supposed to use it daily, might as well try the cheaper version instead. :) A pedicure helped, but very temporarily. The moisturizer and aquafor really keeps that skin healthy.

I know this sounds gross, and it feels aweful, but for my nasty dry, cracked feet -- I slather on VASELINE (cheap!) and then take plastic wrap, wrap my feet and then put socks on.

It is THE MOST AWEFUL feeling, and don't try to walk....you'll be slipping everywhere! But, right before bed I do this and it is the only thing that KEEPS my feet soft and NO MORE CRACKS! It is unbelievable. I would do it for about a week - then get or give yourself a pedi -- take the pumice stone and get all the dead skin off -- then go right back to the vaseline at night before bed....you will definetly notice a difference in about a week.

It feels nasty, but my feet have never looked or felt so good!

Hi S.,
I am a nail tech and specialize in natural nails, specifically pedicures. My VERY first advice to you is not to buy one of the credo blades. They are the ones that have the razor in then and, literally peel(as if peeling an apple) your skin off. They are illegal to use in salons in Illinois and are not good for your feet. They make calluses come back thinker b/c you're damaging healthy skin. Pumice stones are truly too rough on your feet and end up damaging good skin as well.

Go to Sally's and buy th Swedish Clover Foot File and a nail brush. It's the best out there! Foot file your heels with the rough side and then go back of it with the smooth side. PLEASE do not spend too much time b/c your feet will end up hurting if you file too much off right away. Then all you have to do it use an oil, I prefer Jojoba oil and you're all set. Do not wear socks b/c the socks pull the oils off of your feet and absorb into the socks. It's really an old wive's tale. I never file my feet or guest's feet dry, always do it after a warm bath or shower. Use the nail brush to brush off the foot file after each use and just let it air dry.

If you have any other questions, please email me back.
Good luck!
K.

I bought a tiny callous scraper for a buck and it was such a relief! Soak them and scrape them and put your favortie lotion on them! I like olive oil or Vitamin A&D ointment!

Hi S.,
I think it does have something to do with being a mom. I found that carrying all that pregnancy weight was AWFUL on my feet.

You've got to start by getting a pumice stone. I tried to do it a little every day in the shower, but I needed help. I soaked my feet in a tub of warm water with some softening soap. After about 20 minutes, I used some exfoliating lotion and the pumice stone, then soaked some more and then pumiced (is that a word?) again. I actually just did this last weekend after I kept blaming both of my children (almost 4 and 10 months) on my feet. It was time I stopped blaming and did something! They look and feel so much better!

If you don't want to go through the work of doing it yourself, go get a pedicure.

Whether you do it your self or go get a pedi, then just maintain daily or every other day. Pumice in the shower, lotions at night (yes, aquaphor is a good foot lotion as the other mom suggested).

Good luck!

Try Aqua-For I think is how it is spelled. Then put socks on. It's is like a vaseline consistancy but works.

S.:
You are not alone! I didn't take care of the problem and then my feet started to bleed. Boy did that hurt. Getting a pedicure is only a temporary solution to the problem. The skin on our feet, especially our heels is very thick and does take time to heal (it is literally an open wound). If your lotion has any mineral oil in it, then you will never get your feet to heal. Mineral oil just sits on top of the skin layer and does NOT penetrate into the skin to help it deep down in the dermis layer. You can put on all the lotion in the world every hour and it won't help you. Besides, mineral oil is a form of crude oil (petroleum).

I have found an amazing lotion that is all natural and will help heal from the inside out. Yes, you will have to keep it up daily because our skin does need moisture daily. Lose the socks (it's too hot any way and not very sexy at night) and I can help you get the world's best kept secret and other products as well. Our skin is the largest organ we have and it is up to us to protect it. Drinking lots of water during these hot summer months helps too. Let me know if you are interested in getting this vitamin lotion. It's THE BEST!! I have pictures to prove it!
