Double Stroller for Older Kids?

Does such a thing exist: a stroller wide enough for 2 older kids (4.5 & 2) -- not an umbrella stroller or a sit and stand, but basically a bench on wheels? I have a wagon, but looking for something lightweight to move kids through the airport or if they get tired at Sea World..

If not, I may have an invention on my hands. Would anyone else buy such a thing? :)

What can I do next?

Have you looked into jogging strollers? Typically they have higher weight limits for two.

No, I wouldn't buy it either. My kids were out of the stroller by two regardless of where we were.

Seaworld has lots of places to rest if they need it- I hope you have a wonderful time there! Enjoy your vacation!

You actually do want to allow extra time and have them walk at the airport as much as possible. Let them get as much exercise and energy out before you strap them in a seat for a flight. I'd look at bringing a single umbrella stroller for when the 2 year old gets tired. Remember though to allow time for this plan, you can't dash through the airport, instead you will walk at their speed, stop to watch planes take off, etc. Make it a fun adventure and you will all have a better time on the plane if little legs are ready to sit for a while.

Why not rent a stroller at Sea World?

i wouldn't buy it :)...my son is 5 and hasn't needed a stroller since he was about 2. he has always had more energy than me and his dad put together so i've never looked back...i think your 2 year old is the only one i would worry about if i were you. 4 1/2 is plenty old enough to handle a day at sea world. we went this summer and my son was 4 1/2. he did fabulous and had no trouble, was still rarin to go when we left. i try not to discourage him from walking or getting whatever kind of exercise...it's all good for him right?

at the age of almost 5 a child is too old for a stroller. You could get a buddy board (if they sell them in the US, I got mine in the UK) which is a standing board that attaches to the back of your stroller. But honestly, with as old as your kids are, a wagon is probably the best way to go. If they actually made a double stroller for such grown up kids, it would be to huge to get through the crowds.

You would be dealing with a high weight limit on such a stroller, so anything that would accommodate your needs would be expensive. Sorry, I can't think of any offhand, hopefully someone will have a suggestion.

My double BOB (Bob Duallie) is AWESOME! It easily accommodated my 4 and 2 year olds. Now that they're 5 and 3, it still works if absolutely necessary (the five year old fits, but is a bit too heavy with the three year old on there too). It's been a fantastic stroller though, and I plan to take it to Disney later this year. The older one will be walking most of the time, but when he gives out -it will still work!

If your older child is typical (please read that as "not a special needs child" with physical or other limitations) then s/he will not need a stroller/carriage. Walking with breaks will be sufficient. Your younger child will also be able to handle walking with breaks.

You should probably just plan for rest breaks and split up your day with snack breaks, lunch, a nap, and done when it's time for supper if not sooner.

Any stroller through an airport will suck donkey balls. I would get the cute backpacks with the harness straps instead so the kids don't get separated in a crowd, and they'll double as a simple way to carry some light snacks.

I have a double jogger made by Baby Trend that holds 50 lbs per seat. My 5 year old and 2.5 yr old can both sit in it VERY comfortably. I haven't actually PUT the older one in it since the summer when we were going through the airport and I wanted him contained for as long as possible before we got through the TSA checkpoint. It worked, and has a 5 pt harness so he couldn't slip out of it.

www.BabyTrend.com - look under "Joggers" and then it will show you where each model is available--typically Target-online.

We have a hand-me-down Burley D'lite...I love it. I would totally bring it to Sea World...don't know that I'd bring it to the airport tho...then again, I love it so much...maybe I would? It definitely doesn't fold up as small as other strollers. Yes, there are a lot of times when my kids were around that age and they would just walk...in fact, most of the time they would...but sometimes, at the end of a long day somewhere...they want to sit...and we need to move. I would rather have it with me and use it to haul 'stuff'...then have a child that is exhausted (didn't sleep well not in his own bed...missing naps due to traveling...whatever) and make the afternoon miserable for everyone else with their whining and dragging feet, etc. Ages 2 and 4.5 are kind of young to assume that they will be pleasantly energetic all day :). I tend to think that way tho'. Yes, after typing...I think I would probably bring it with me. I love that thing :)

I like the CityMini a lot. My kids are 4.5 years and 14 months, so a little bit younger, but there is definitely room to grow. A friend of mine rented one last summer for her kids, who at the time were 5.5 and 3, and she was really happy with it. In fact, that's what made me buy it!
