I have a newborn and a 2 year old and I am looking to get a double stroller for the girls. I don't usually bring a stroller to stores, but rather use it to walk around the neighborhood. I have a sedan and my trunk is not that big, but I would like to be able to get the stoller in there if I need to so I can't get anything HUGE! I would like to pay about $150-200 for the stroller. Any recommendations or advice??

I recommend the sit and stand stroller. You can buy it at target. I just love it. The newborn is in the front and the two year old can sit and be buckled, or can stand up and hold on to the built in handles. The stroller also handles really well.

Hello M.,
My name is W. and I am looking to get rid of my double jogger. I bought it last year and only used it a couple of times. I bought it for my one year old and 4 year old but after I bought it my 4 year old learned to ride his bike without training wheels so he did not have to ride in the jogger any more!! Lucky me, right?? So, if you are interested, I will sell it for $125, new is almost $200.00 with tax. Let me know if you are interested, it is a very nice jogger with handle breaks, storage underneath and it folds.
Thanks, W.

Graco double stroller is inexpensive and works well. I used it for my two they were 13 months apart. Do not get the one with the seats side by side it is to wide in most situations and is very diffcult to get in and out of trunks. Hope this helps....CAT

I have a 2yr.and 9mo. old, after loads of research we purchased a Baby Trend sit and stand deluxe plus stroller by Baby Trend. The selling point for us is the backseat can be removed and placed in the basket so the older child can stand on the platform or sit on the jumpseat. You can put the infant carseat in front,we have a graco one. It is easy to manuever, weighs about 20lbs and folds easy. We purchased ours from www.tinyride.com,(go to site, click on Baby Trend and it is the fourth pix $159)we received free shipping, no tax. We love it.

I love my McLauren Triumph. It fits in the trunk of my Toyota Corolla & is fairly lightweight. It has a 4-point harness & reclining seats so my little guy was comfortable in it around 6-8 wks along w/ my 16 month old as well. I think it was around $200 it purchased it new off of e-bay, but I've seen them at Toys r' us recently as well. We go everywhere & I have never had any trouble getting in/out of store doors.

Hi M.!

A couple friends and I went in on a double stroller for a friend of ours for her baby shower. She was due with her second little girl right after her oldest turned 2. We got her the Sit 'n Stand Elite Double Stroller from onestepahead.com. (It's the one she picked.) It was $180 plus shipping.

I don't have a recommended brand but a suggestion - get one of the tandem double strollers. The item from onestepahead sounds perfect. If you're walking down the sidewalk it's easier to turn and pass people with. It also makes shopping easier as it will fit down most aisles. We've had both types and the tandem seemed to work the best - it also folds smaller than one of those double wides and will fit in the back of the car - ok not a compact car. We went to Babys R Us to get an idea of the types and brands available and sometimes they have coupons on line at their website.

I suggest getting a sling for the newborn and continuing to use your single stroller for your 2yr. I love my Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. You can find them at babyslings.com. With a sling baby is happy and you can nurse and walk with the baby. I have used slings from the time they are newborns all the way to 3yr. It is convenient when you are going to end up carrying them anyway. i.e. at the end of a day at the zoo when they are too tired to walk and sick of the stroller.

Hi M., I have a Graco duo glider that I found on Graco's website. If your using a stroller with the infant car seat you want to make sure that its compatible for the car seat to fit. Most of Graco's strollers will work with their different infant seats--but it will specify which ones.
Good luck

There's a Chico brand stroller that is highly rated....umbrella type double stroller that should fit your needs.

We just purchased the BOB Duallie running stroller and it is fantastic, but not condusive to doing quick errands or trying to manage getting through doors in stores!

Hi, I own a Combi twin Sport stroller and I love it. My kids are 1 and 3 and they both fit in it great. It is an umbrella type stroller which I take everywhere, even shopping. The great things about this stroller is that it is very light and it tri-folds to about the size of a golf bag. I drive a Jetta (the old model) and it fits great in the trunk with plenty of room to spare for groceries or whatever. In my opinion the side by side strollers are the best because they are light and compact, your kids won't fight over who get to sit in front, and they are easier top maneuver. Oh, one last thing... you should go to a store like babies r us or burlington coat factory and actually test out the strollersto see which one works best for you and your family. Good luck and have a great day.

I would suggest a double jogger if you're using it for walks around the neighborhood. Ours is pretty old, but I'm sure they have something more compact now. However, what we have that has worked really well is the Joovy Caboose. (Make sure you get the ultra light as is makes a big difference!) It has an attachment so a newborn carseat can fit up front and a "sit or stand" option for the two year old in the back. When the front stroller seat is reclined (which it needs to be for the carseat to fit in the front) there isn't a lot of room for the two year old to sit, but my son mostly stands anyway. He has found it a GREAT way to ride around town. It fits very well in the car. It takes up about as much room as my Graco stroller does. Check it out online to see what it looks like. We bought ours at Great Beginnings in MD, but I think it is also available at Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby. I have a 7 month old and an almost three year old, but we bought this stroller for the age combo you have right now. Also, it navigates curbs really easily - driveway aprons are harder, but not that bad.

Graco makes a great double (front to back, not side - by side) that is amazingly maneuverable (sp?) and folds up very compact -- about the same area as my single stroller. of course, i can't remember the name of it, but Toys R US / Babies R Us carries it.

M. the only advice I can give you is buy a stroller that is front to back, we had one for our girls and it was wonderful very easy to push and handles very nice. It also folded very flat it's kinda of long, but I have a minavan and it would fit behind the 3rd seat and the gate, and of course it fit great in the back of our truck. If I were you I wouldn't get a side by side, they don't fit in alot of places. Good luck

We have a double instep jogger that we bought online for $184 with shipping. It's a great stroller, good for the nieghborhood and walking, but also fits nicely in the trunk of my Camry. I love it and so do my twins. You can't beat the price, Buy Buy Baby in Rockville carries them for like $220 if you want to check one out I would say go there.

I also have a sit n stand from One Step Ahead and I love it. It is good because you can put the carseat on the front or take the front medal part off and then they can sit in it like a regular stroller when they get older. Then on the back they can sit or stand. I have a 3 year old and a newborn when I got the stroller (now she is 13 months) and I have used it this whole time. They both love it. It's still in great shape after a year of use. I use it mainly for walks and to go the zoo etc. Hope that helps. Good Luck!

M., I have held a huge children's consignment sale in VB for the past twelve years. The spring/summer sale is being held March 13-15, and I know there will be several strollers to choose from. If you think you can wait til then, I know you will be able to find what you are looking for at a very reasonable price. There are usually over 20,000 items, all of which are thoroughly inspected before they are accepted. If you want other details about the sale, you can email me at ____@____.com is too good to miss!

I have the sit n stand, they sell it at Target. I bought it when I had the baby so the carseat hooks onto the front. But the only thing the 2 yr old can only sit on the bench or stand worked perfectly though. They have different versions out now too at Babies R Us.

I have an Inglesina, side by side stroller, which is great. I paid around $199 for it, each side can recline independently of the other, it has 2 pouches underneath to store things and it folds flat like an umbrella stroller to fit in the car. I bought it when my daughter was brand new and my son was 2 1/2 and I still use it now that they are 5 and almost 3. My friend did lots of research, owned a Peg Perego which she hated and found this one which she told me about. I would highly recommend it.

It's more than you want to spend but way worth the money. I have the Phil and Ted's E3 stroller. It looks like a jogging stroller but really light. It has a detachable piece that can either go on the front for your older one when the stroller is reclined for your newborn or the piece can go on the back for your younger one when the baby is older. I have a 4 year old and 10 month old and it is the best investment as far as baby gear goes. I can fit it in my Mazda with a little trunk. The website to see pictures is: philandteds.com. I bought mine on Amazon.

I have a sit and stand stroller that I got for my children that are also two years apart. It has a car seat bar that is really easy to take off and put on and your toddler can sit w/a seat belt on the bench in back or stand on the platform. My daughter loves that she has the choice and my back loves that I don't have to lift her into a stroller (she just steps on) It has a nice big basket underneath and cup holders so that is nice. It also has a removable tray for the front seat once you don't need to use the car seat bar anymore. It is pretty lightweight and folds up to about the same size as a regular stroller (like with a travel system) I really like mine a lot. I also have an additional umbrella stroller that I can hang on the side of the double in case my oldest needs a break on a long walk. I got it at Target and it was about $120. I would definately recommend it. Good luck.

I recommend looking at consignment stores for a side by side. They fold up to a pretty small size (esp. combi). Check first to see if you can put a baby car seat in one of the seats (if you want to use it right away. The front to back ones are heavier and bigger, but they do hold infant seats, and the older kid can't reach the younger one. I had a Graco front/back, but it was very heavy. Also consider getting one with a decent sized basket for all that gear!

or the new graco duo that folds up the size of a single which i love.

There are some compact models out there. I personally have a Sit and Stand LX, and I've seen lots of moms with them walking at the mall. I found it at Wal-Mart for about $100. It comes with a removable bar for carrying carseat for baby. As baby grows, s/he can sit in the seat instead. The older child can sit in the rear with a buckle or stand on the platform and hold the handles with a different buckle that goes behind the child's back. It closes with one had and folds pretty small compared to many I've seen. This may or may not be what you want, but remember, when you do go shopping for your new stroller, make sure you fold and unfold it a few times, to make sure you can do it comfortably. Pick it up, roll it around, make sure it will fit in your trunk (bring your tape measure if you need to). You won't want to find out you don't like it or can't handle it after you buy it. Good luck.
