Don't Know If I'm Pregnant

So I was on this birth control for six or seven months before this started happening but I have not had my period since the end of September, I had two days in Nov and Jan that I had spotting that I just wiped away first thing in the morning that was a light brown/pinkish color, it didn't last all day. I have been having some symptoms, but not morning sickness. I took a few urine tests and they were negative but I have friends that have told me that they had negative urine but positive blood tests.I've been to the family doctor practice in my town but all they have done is given me another urine test (even though I requested a blood test) then told me to stop taking my birth control Dec 18 and the Dr said hopefully you get a period next month and that a urine test was just as accurate as a blood test. Normally as soon as I miss two pills, I will start bleeding. I started bleeding the evening of the 13th (a week later than my "cycle" should've been), at first it was somewhat brighter red but then it was dark and then that brown/pinkish discharge the past two days and not near as heavy or long as my period usually is while not on birth control. I still feel like I'm having symptoms, but maybe its just false hope? I FINALLY have an OB appointment tomorrow but I've never been there and I dont want her to think I'm crazy.Could I be pregnant?? I'd love to get any feedback at all! Thanks

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your feedback!! I went to my long awaited appointment today and the doctor ended up being really nice. She gave me a urine test that once again came out negative, big surprise, but she wrote me a slip to go get a blood test without any issues, what a relief! I plan on going to take the test even if it is just for peace of mind. I am just not completely convinced yet for some reason, my gut is just telling me to get the blood test. I feel like all these signs my body is giving me have to be for something but if its not that I'm pregnant than I'd like to know what it is about! I'm normally healthy and not a paranoid person but I have obviously been paying more attention since I missed my period but I have tried not to actually worry about it too much.

Be matter of fact. Explain the situation. I'm sure the OB has heard it before. Get a blood test, discuss the possibilities, including that your birth control isn't working right for you even if you aren't pregnant. Be calm. It'll be fine.

My sister IS trying to get pregnant and went to the OB thinking she was but it was a false alarm. Her OB didn't make her feel stupid and neither should yours.

First, the urine test is NOT as sensitive as the blood test. Tell the OB that you want the blood test, alrhough you may have an ultrasound when you go to the office. Second, I have had friends that are clearly pregnant have negative tests. Let us know what happens. And I might consider a new primary doctor too.

Just from my own personal experience I will tell you that I took several urine tests over a 3 week period and each came back negative. I just knew I was pregnant, felt it in my heart, so I told my OB. I had a blood test that afternoon and sure enough I was prego. As I understand it from her, everyone's hormone levels do not rise at the same rate and can be undetectable to the urine tests. I have been pregnant 5 times and only once was it detected by the urine test. Trust your instinct and go for the blood work. Good Luck and God Bless.

You said you don't want the OB to think you're crazy. I say, "Why care who thinks your crazy?" It seems like you know your body pretty well (knowing what your periods are usually like off birth control, knowing when they come, etc) and maybe you're seeing it all with hope, but that's no reason to NOT see a doctor when you think the changes might point to pregnancy. I second the response that said to think about getting a new primary Dr. If you request something and they refuse to give it to you, they're not who you want in charge of your healthcare, especially when all the books and nurses and doctors say that blood tests are more accurate than urine tests.

Yep, I think you could be pregnant. i would just take it easy for a few weeeks. Eat healthy and refrain from drinking alcholic beverages. But sometimes stress makes your body act strangely. So good luck. And relax.

hold on a minute..if you think you might be pregnant, you
probably are. it sounds like your doctor told you to stop taking the pills because he thought you might be pregnant,
but was too lazy to give you a blood test .change doctors
first off and go from there

I know how confusing this must be for you.

After 3 months, your body stops producing the HCg hormone that a urine test looks for. At three months, your breasts should be getting a little bigger and your abdomen/uterus will be expanded a TAD (not a lot)

However, I personally don't think you are pregnant - it's entirely possible that the birth control that your Dr gave you was too strong - had too much hormone in it and your body is messed up. There are Drs and people who say "any blood - spotting or otherwise" constitutes a cycle. This is why I think the pill your Dr put you on was too strong for your body.

If you are pregnant and this is what you want CONGRATULATIONS!!! If you are not pregnant - have this new Dr run a blood test to check your hormone levels and change your birth control pill - if you are trying to get pregnant - it's important to have a marker for your hormones.

I hope this information helps you!!

Best regards,

Cheryl

You definitely need to demand a blood test. For one reason or another, urine tests are not always accurate. Plus, by doing bloodwork they should be able to determine if there are any other issues going on leading to the irregular bleeding.
