Hi. I have some furniture to give away and was looking for a service that picks up large pieces (like a couch) from your home. I do not want to post on craig's list type places, makes me nervous when strangers are coming in my home to take a 'look'. These peices are not worth that much and I would like to donate. Any thoughts on who to contact? Thanks in advavce!

You can call the Salvation Army. They have a truck that will pick up furniture. They can schedule it and give you a receipt for deduction to your taxes (if you want). Or Purple Heart Veterans also have pick ups reguarly from your home.http://charityguide.org/volunteer/fifteen/furniture-donat...
This website gives you some info.
Hi Pam,
you can call Sarvation Army, they will schedule a pick up time with you. My sister just gave her until apartment to them. The only thing we didn't like is that they have so many pick ups and sometimes they will get to you with a full truck and no room to put the furniture. Make sure you insist on the time that you are available and tell them that if they do not make it to you , the furniture will go somewhere else.
Good luck.

Also i think Salvation ARmy picks up furn. too.
call the cancer federation (foundation) and the viet nam veterans. both pick up large pieces on particular days that you can schedule ahead of time and leave the furnishings on your driveway. otherwise you can leave it on your curb the night before trash pickup and people always drive the neighborheads for frunishings the night before pickup. I put a couch out once and a divircee came to my door and asked if he could take it because he had his kids on the weekend and needed a bed for them; it was a sleeper sofa. I felt good for having put it out there.
