http://www.antiickypoo.com Seriously, this stuff works. You can find it at Amazon and probably on eBay for cheaper, but it definitely works. Get the gallon and use it all. Good luck.
We recently tore up our carpet and there is one area where our dog would hide and urinate on the carpet. Now even with the carpet up it still smells really bad. The floor under the carpet is really old boards, something that will have to get covered again. I was just wondering if we would paint it with Kilz will that cover the smell? The urine smell has soaked into a fairly large spot the wood. Or will we need to do something else to get rid of the smell before putting the new floor over it? I just don't want to do all the work and then have the smell come back again.

We recently tore up all of our old carpet and were amazed at how many pet stains we found from people living here before us as well as our own animals. We painted the entire floor with Kilz twice to assure us that the smell would not come through. It has been a year and there does not seem to be an issue, even with humidity.
Two coats of Kilz is the ticket! Good luck!
Put Natures Miracle (a lot of it) on it and then let it thoroughly dry, then paint the sub-floor with Kilz. We did this at our old house and then put in new pad and carpet and never had an issue. Good luck!
Go to the pet store and get Nature's Miracle, soak the area several times with it. Then after it has dried, seal it. Also have your windows open as much as you can.
We had a similar problem with cat urine. Bought a product called Urine Gone, and doused the area and waited for it to dry. Then doused it again. This was three years ago, and there has been no recurrence of the odor.
We had the same issue with cats! Yuck! So first we had to pull out the old carpet and leave the floor open-now we mopped with slight bleach water many times and of course this has already taken the color out of the floor so it had to be stripped and restained-I think that helped more than anything-but yes it leaves it's own smell-not good but better than the animals. Now the floor looks so good we did not put carpet back--I think that helped too. You might want to see what a floor specialist has to offer-maybe there are better clening items than what we used with less mess. We did not lose our flooring either-so that was good but yo might have to remove part of the wood if it won't come clean?
Petco, Petsmart, etc... sell a spray that is made for taking this smell out. It comes in a container similiar to round up weed killer. It's around 20 bucks, but well worth it. My cat was using the ground in our basement for god knows how long before we noticed...(we do not use the basement except for storage) We sprayed a couple of coats on the floor over a two week time period and the smell is finally gone. I now use the same spray whenever my puppy has "accidents" on the carpet and wood floors...so far so good.
GOOD LUCK
We had dog urine in every room and in almost every spot on the floor when we bought our house, never noticed it until we had the floors shampooed the day before. What a mess. We had to replace all the carpets in the house. All the carpet cleaners did was paint the floor with kiltz and they laid the carpets over that dried, we have never smelled it since.
There are special paints and products that are specifically made to mask urine smells after removing carpet. Check with your local paint store they will be able to direct you to the products that are available for you specific type of flooring.
I would check with a professional carpet cleaner that SPECIALIZES in pet urine removal. There are chemicals that are able to break down the urine in the carpet and pad; not sure about wood.
HI Rebeca,
I used an all natural solvent to get male cat spray out. It took removing everything, scrubbing with steel wool and then Kilzing it. You may have to sand it down also. My recommendation is go to the pet store and get a black light so you can see exactly where all of it is. If you do the work on some and miss one small spot it will be as if you did nothing at all.

when we moved into our new place we ran into this same problem. We used bleach and then a product called Natures miracle. I am sorry to say, that neither worked. We ended up having to replace the subfloor as well. My suggestion would be to just go ahead and replace that part of the subfloor now when its an easy fix compared to after the new flooring is laid and then you will have to pull it up and then replace again. If I had to do it again, I would just replace the subfloor and start fresh! Hope this helps!
You may have to replace the wood. I don't think Kilz will do it.
